Homeless man arrested after allegedly driving stolen car to Kentucky and back

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jeffrey Kyle Robertson, 31, was arrested early this morning and charged with grand theft of a vehicle after allegedly stealing a vehicle and driving it to Kentucky and back.

A friend of the vehicle’s owner told a responding Gainesville Police Department that Robertson had taken the car from the McDonald’s at 2880 NW 13th Street on August 12, and the vehicle’s owner said that friends and family in Eddyville, Kentucky, had seen Robertson driving the vehicle there within the past week; Robertson reportedly has family in Eddyville. Both the owner and his friend said they had been trying to get the vehicle back for about two weeks.

The investigating officer reported that license plate cameras picked up the vehicle in Oak Grove, KY, about 40 minutes from Eddyville, on August 25.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy saw the vehicle in the Butler Plaza area earlier today and arrested Robertson.

Robertson, who is described as homeless in a court document, has a criminal history in other states between 2014 and 2023 and has a pending Notice to Appear and warrant for felony property damage in Jackson County. Judge Mark Moseley set bail at $5,000.

  • When he starts his qualfying ambassador job the city will give him an electric car so he can travel the USA for free without bothering the general public for their vehicles.

    • Give him free affordable housing in a Clown house in a SFR neighborhood near you and $20/hr to be an ambassador downtown @ the Hipp too‼️

    • I find it interesting that the head of the various block group starts at 30 per hour which is more than law enforcement starts at

    • The headline says it all, “Homeless man arrested after allegedly driving stolen car to Kentucky and back.”

He either couldn’t get as much free stuff there, or he really likes it in Florida. (Despite what many liberals claim).

  • Must be more to this story- Both the thief and owner have family in Edyville, KY?

What does the fact that he is Homeless have to do with anything? Why does every headline have to point out that someone is homeless? Why say White Man, Thief, Bum, or some other descriptor?

  • WTF did the genius come back here? He couldn’t find a job ANYWHERE else between here and Ky either?
We need a Stupidity Jail, just for peeps who are idiots.
