Homeless man arrested for attacking Amazon driver at red light

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – David Allen Dunson, 42, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with burglary of an occupied vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia after allegedly attacking an Amazon driver who was stopped at a red light.

According to the arrest report, a Gainesville Police Department officer was a few cars behind the Amazon delivery vehicle near the intersection of S. Main Street and 1st Avenue and witnessed the entire incident. The officer reported that Dunson approached the delivery vehicle while it was stopped at a red light and punched the driver through an open window while the driver was taking video of Dunson.

Dunson allegedly approached the delivery vehicle aggressively, screaming and using racial slurs, and tried to fight the driver. The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle to defend himself, and the two men fought until the officer broke it up.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a glass pipe that is typically used for smoking illegal narcotics.

Dunson, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has four felony convictions (one violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (none violent). His local criminal history goes back to 2015, but he also has charges in Alabama and Tennessee between 1999 and 2022. Dunson reportedly refused to attend the First Appearance hearing this morning, and Judge Bo Bayer ordered him held without bail until tomorrow, when bail will be set if he attends the First Appearance hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • We just love hearing about the Grace career criminals committing acts of violence, EVERY DAY. Maybe someone could pass on these facts to the fat man and his crew so they could get a clue. Nah, they are too dub to care.

  • Another Poe & Ward invitee.
Better watch out, next thing you know Amazon will stop delivering downtown.

In other news, Gainesville Commissioners are diverting $700k of AARPA funds to address the homeless crisis in Gainesville. Looks like someone with some $$$ sent them a memo. Unfortunately, it’s a little too late. Not only are the homeless encamped, they’re also entrenched.

Hope you progressive liberals are still happy with what you’ve done to the place.

  • The city just sit aside 700,000 dollars to spend on these bastards to keep them in Gainesville. It’s a shame that the ones they steal from, assault can’t file suit against the mayor and commissioners personally. Let it come out of their pocket

    • It’s part of the pile of “free” money (ARPA funds) that the federal government printed, that both parties signed off on, up in DC. They are also using those funds to fund ~$170K for a gun violence temp hire for the next 2+ years. They have to use those funds or lose them I would guess.

  • Chuck Clemons we need you to intervene on Our homeless issue, obviously our city and county commissioners who obviously can’t balance a checkbook, just want to throw our (property owners) money down the sewer!!! Ridiculous, we as taxpayers get nothing for our contribution, just millions of potholes in our roads! My neighborhood has large, deep holes and we all pay taxes!!! They should pitch their tents in every commissioner’s yard! This city/county group deciding what’s best for us, are destroying our once beautiful community!!!

  • GRACE is the gift that keeps on taking from the actual working people of community, money pit and crime magnet. Thanks Poe and Co.

  • Isn’t Camp Downtown so lovely these days?
Bidenomics is working wonders, even the homeless want to be Amazon drivers! 🍦👹🤡💩🤬D

  • Is anyone tracking the number of violent attacks and crimes committed by the homeless in gville? Can folks sue the incompetent decision makers who have rolled out the red carpet for these people?

  • GPD & ASO really seem to do a consistently good job at making arrests. I’m thankful for those officers!

The policies that have made Alachua Cty and Gainesville a magnet for the career homeless population need to be corrected. Whatever the intentions for those policies, the reality is that they have failed.

We need some leaders with some good solutions!

  • There is a video of this fight on GWOM on facebook. Dude got his ass handed to him by the amazon driver lol
