Homeless man arrested for battery on Target employee

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Timothy Brian McCord, 38, was arrested yesterday and charged with battery and resisting an officer after allegedly shoving a Target employee who was trying to calm McCord after he allegedly threatened to punch customers.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Target (3970 SW Archer Road) at about 2:45 p.m. yesterday, where a store employee reportedly said McCord was threatening to punch customers and that McCord had pushed him in the chest when he tried to calm him down. McCord had been trespassed from the store earlier in the day.

When the officer arrived, McCord allegedly refused to identify himself, so the officer used facial recognition software to identify him. Two witnesses reportedly told the officer that they saw the incident.

McCord is also facing a sworn complaint for disorderly intoxication and trespass after warning after allegedly consuming three bottles of fireball liquor at the Butler Plaza Walmart on November 4 and trying to fight multiple Walmart employees and customers.

McCord, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has four felony convictions (three violent) and 29 misdemeanor convictions (nine violent). He has served two state prison sentences and was last released in December 2021. He has four local convictions in 2023 for trespassing and disorderly intoxication, with most sentences consisting of fines that he has not paid. Judge Aymer “Buck” Curtin set bail at $15,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I sure hope the voters of Wokeville soon get tired of the welcoming mat for the homeless and vote people into office that will discourage them staying here and close GRACE HOUSE I would love to see the percentage crimes they are involved in

  • Another person who has no business on the streets. 33 criminal cases, 11 violent charges, 2 prison sentences. And above all else a grace marketplace resident. He does not know how to be a human and get along with others.

    • Yes perhaps. 33 convictions but the number of criminal cases may be higher than 33 if some got tossed.

  • Give this A-hole some free housing & rehab in the slammer! I’m ok with my tax dollars going to expanding the jail! not for free housing to violent vagrant panhandling A-holes like this!
The Grace mkt program is not working…things are getting worse….grace mkt should be a work crew thing that provides help if you clean up the streets & roads of trash.
    “Be a can handler, not a panhandler”…
If you take the public $, then you need to give back with public service…no one should ride for free. The options should be:
    1. Work
    2. Jail
    3. Bus ticket on the hound out of town!

  • Obviously, just giving fines (that are ignored and unpaid), is not working. Maybe community service on the Public Works crew, making him actually do something useful.

  • They already closed the Target by campus, at least partially due to the aggressive vagrants who frequent that area.
