Homeless man arrested for chasing man with a knife

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Daniel Brown, 51, was arrested early this morning after firefighters at Gainesville Fire Rescue Station 1 reported that he was chasing another man with a knife outside the station. Firefighters brought the victim inside to keep him safe while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

Brown, whose address is listed as the old fire station on Main Street, reportedly still had a cane and a kitchen knife in his hands when the Gainesville Police Department officer arrived, but he dropped them when told to do so. The victim had minor injuries on his hand. A glass pipe was found during a search incident to arrest.

Brown was released from state prison in July of 2021 after serving a 15-year sentence for burglary of an occupied dwelling/conveyance and is a registered career offender. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, aggravated battery causing bodily harm, and possession of drug equipment. He is being held without bail pending first appearance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • They need to put all these idiots in the foyer of City Hall before the mayor and commissioners go to to their offices.

  • The correct terminology is “drug paraphernalia”.. Oh, and recidivism is real, nothing anyone can do about it.
