Homeless man arrested for entering hotel room, stealing cash and clothes
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Timothy John Conway, 47, was arrested yesterday and charged with burglary, grand theft, and drug possession after allegedly entering a hotel room at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at 3726 SW 40th Boulevard and taking items belonging to a guest.
A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the hotel at about noon yesterday and found Conway in a hotel room, where he had put on the guest’s clothes, damaged a prayer rug, and stolen $3,700. The guest returned to the room while Conway was still there and confronted him; Conway reportedly returned most of the cash at that point.
The officer reported that Conway was still in the hotel room and wearing the guest’s clothes when she arrived.
Conway also allegedly took a comforter that belonged to the hotel and was using it to carry his belongings.
A search incident to arrest reportedly produced 0.8 grams of MDPV.
Post Miranda, Conway reportedly said someone gave him the key to the room, but he could not identify or describe the person. He said the MDPV was “Chinese wax” but did not belong to him.
This is Conway’s third arrest since June 5, 2023. The June arrest was for stealing a bicycle; the charges were later dropped. He was arrested again in August after failing to appear at a hearing on a charge of trespass after warning and was convicted, fined, and released in late September. He was referred to Mental Health Court in June by Judge Susan Miller-Jones, but the State Attorney’s Office did not approve the request.
Conway has eight felony convictions (none violent) and 11 misdemeanor convictions (none violent). Judge Walter Green set bail at $25,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Thank you dip$hit ward and city commission for alowing this type of trash to stay in Gainesville I can wait to read one of them has broken into your house or came after your family
As liberal as Ward is, he’s just as big a hypocrite. Guarantee you he has a firearm in his house for protection since he can’t take his police force home with him.
This is unacceptable! Judge Green, why such a low bail?
Yes he got 25,000 when others got 2 to 8000 with gun charges, battery and hit and run. All should be treated equally.
That’s a high bail for his charges.
Career criminal who ignores societies rules and laws. Not high bail at all.
well thats interesting..
I wonder how many other guests were visiting Gainesville with prayer rugs on the day that Hamas was calling for a global jihad? Prayer rugs and almost 5k?
Give him the addresses of our useless commissioners, lawyers and judges.
“This is Conway’s third arrest since June 5, 2023. The June arrest was for stealing a bicycle; the charges were later dropped”
Really? So if you drop the charges you think they will straighten up and mend their ways?
He needs mental help. Wonder why the State Attorneys office denied the request. So he’ll just continue with this type of behavior and get arrested over and over again.
And we’ll continue to get more and more just like him because of disGRACE Marketplace attracting them all here.
That’s the key! The people who condone these types of behaviors keep getting elected over and over again. Eventually Gainesville and Alachua County voters will realize that’s the problem.
