Homeless man arrested for entering woman’s bedroom while she slept

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kishon Marquis Jones, 29, was arrested yesterday and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, petit theft, and battery on a law enforcement officer after allegedly entering a woman’s home and bedroom while she slept.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call from a woman who said she was taking a nap and woke up because she heard rustling in her room; she said she thought it might have been one of her pets, but when the noises continued, she woke up and saw a man, later identified as Jones, in her bedroom. She said she was terrified and yelled at the man to get out, but the man told her to shut up and started slowly walking out of the house. She said the man was looking around as he walked, and she believed he was still looking for things to steal.

The victim said Jones was wearing a shirt he had taken from her and that he had also taken her cigarettes.

An officer reportedly found Jones hiding in the victim’s fenced yard, where he spontaneously said he was homeless and thought the property was abandoned. He was reportedly wearing a shirt that matched the detailed description given by the victim, and a pack of cigarettes matching her description was in his pocket. The victim also positively identified Jones as the man who had been in her bedroom.

While being transported to the jail, Jones allegedly spit on an officer.

Jones has eight felony convictions (one violent) and 21 misdemeanor convictions (two violent); he has two convictions since April for trespass after warning. He has served three state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2019. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $35,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • $35, 000 for burglary and battery on a law enforcement officer. I know he only spit but pasty face might have something catchy. Battery is battery and given the criminal history (29 convictions) if this guy he needs to be incarcerated vs walking the streets.

  • I guess he knew there was a storm a comin and wanted to be in a safe place.

  • Their is always hope that the city will have to shut down market place next year and encourage these lowlifes to go elsewhere their is jobs in the city of Gainesville every where you look now hiring signs no excuse not to have a job

    • many homeless people have mental illness or cognitive disabilities that prevent them from being productive members of society. if GRACE gets shut down, the homeless members of our community will still exist but they will be even closer to your home and cause more trouble than they do when they have access to resources and support like GRACE.

  • Maybe instead of painting all that useless graffiti on 34th St wall they should paint “LOCK YOUR DOORS!”
Maybe a downtown protest against people leaving their doors unlocked?
    What’s it going to take?

  • What a useless individual nothing but a drain on the system. Don’t people lock their doors? Maybe he’ll enter the wrong door one time and that’ll be his last time trespassing.

  • It’d be nice if these reports said WHERE these incidents happen. Is there some ESG protocol prohibiting that? We don’t need street addresses, just the hoods would suffice. Thank you.
I’m trying to avoid NextDoor app, since they’re censoring free speech.

    • Go to the Alachua clerk website and look at the arrest affidavit. The address and time of offense will be listed as well as a more detailed description of what happened in the narrative section.

  • Dude, don’t ever enter my house while I’m sleeping, or anytime for that matter.
First, you got to overcome the dog.
Then, if you make it that far, you got to face me.
And if I wake up….. On short notice, before the coffee maker, and it’s not a family member, or my alarm clock, awakening me to go to my job,,,,
well, this really isn’t the forum to complete my statement……

  • Now that’s crazy, George jorski said. It’s about $35000 from breaking into someone’s house and doing all that. It’s probably gonna get a slap on the wrist that’s sad
