Homeless man arrested for hitting Subway employee

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sam Kirtan Shinkman, 29, who is listed as homeless on the arrest report, was arrested yesterday morning after allegedly hitting an employee of the Subway at 203 NE 39th Avenue.

The employee at the store told a Gainesville Police Department officer that Shinkman came into the Subway on Saturday, took off his shoes, and left without the shoes. She reportedly said she threw the shoes out the door, and Shinkman came back, argued with her, and pushed her with both hands; she said that he then hit her in the face. A witness saw the incident and reportedly corroborated the account of the Subway employee.

Post Miranda, Shinkman reportedly said that he exchanged words with the employee and accidentally hit her in the face.

Shinkman has eight local felony convictions, along with some out-of-county convictions. He has been charged with simple battery, and bail was set at $5,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • 1. Did another county jail release Shinkman and put him on a bus to GNV/Alachua County to receive benefits from Grace Marketplace?

    2. What’s the GNV city manager doing to reduce panhandlers in street medians?

    3. Did Shinkman order any food at the subway or just take a bath in the restroom?

    4. What is the city going to do to address the homeless neighbors who trespass, panhandle,
Commit battery & crimes, do drugs, & deface public property like the recent spray painting of a patrol car downtown?

    5. We have several public safety issues that need to be addressed…
Has the GNV CC placed these issues on their agenda to be discussed & resolved?

    • He Me in and sat on the floor picking bugs off his feet. Then got up and walked out without his shoes and stock. As a customer I was disgusted. Employee set his shoes outside the door and the guy freaked out. He was out of control.

  • Five dollar foot long… nope, today I am going hungry… that’s my bond amount in Crimesville.
