Homeless man arrested for stabbing driver after crashing into a car on his bike
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tyler Jackson Hess, 25, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated battery after allegedly stabbing the driver of a car he hit while riding a bike.
The victim told a Gainesville Police Department officer that he had been driving through the intersection of Newberry Road and NW 43rd Street when Hess, who was riding a bicycle, crashed into the side of his vehicle.
The victim said he pulled over to check whether the bicyclist needed medical attention, and it looked to him like Hess was going to shake his hand, but instead Hess pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him in the abdomen.
The victim said that after stabbing him, Hess said, “That’s a death wish.” The victim said he went back to his vehicle until officers and EMS arrived.
An officer detained Hess about three blocks away from the crash, and Hess reportedly said without being prompted, “I have the right to defend myself.”
A knife was reportedly found where Hess was detained.
Hess was arrested in 2020 for pulling a knife on a woman in a medical office and entered a plea of nolo contendere to charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence. He was adjudicated guilty of the misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer, and adjudication of guilt was withheld on the felony charge of aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation in February 2021 with the condition that he continue mental health treatment. He was re-arrested in November 2021 after discontinuing mental health treatment, but after he showed that he had a new mental health provider, the terms of his probation were reinstated, and he successfully completed probation.
Hess, who is described as homeless in the arrest report, has one felony conviction (one violent) and five misdemeanor convictions (two violent). Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $100,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Thanks liberal Gainesvillian’s for voting Harv and associated losers into office.
if you don’t like it here you can leave 🙂
Why should they leave when its the liberals that ruined the city in the first place? Liberals didn’t populate Gainesville until they flunked out of school UF
Another disgrace invited to this place by Harvey “Two-Face.”
Hope you liberals are happy with what your votes have down to our place.
if you hate it here so much feel free to move somewhere else 🙂
Hood Rat Attack!!!
This guy changed his name to La’Toya Rain, total fruitcake. Needs to be in a professionally supervised environment to say the least.
Thank God it was stabbing violence this time and not gun violence.
That bum’s trying to smear my name
You can thank the fascist republicans for this: the stand your ground law. Stab first, ask questions later
Sweetie here is your Id10T card. use it frequently.
I agree with Jim. Paulie did you actually read and comprehend the story?
F.S.S.776.012
(2) A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.
Here is the statute pertaining to deadly force under the “Stand your ground law”. Have you actually ever read the statute?
Did you read the post. Tyler stabbed someone whose car HE RAN INTO with his bicycle.
Really dim bulb, you.
Another nut job loose in Gainesville to terrorize the citizens. Put him in jail and then make him get mental health counseling and then give him a one way ticket out of here.
Thanks to liberal policies.
How lovely! Even Good Samaritans are endangered in our *fair* community, Mayor Ward and judges. 🤡👹💩🍦🍦🍦🍦
Just keep on letting people with mental conditions roam our streets, and, we will keep on getting results like this. This Kid is on his way to killing someone if not stopped.
I have quite a few mental conditions and I’m not doing this. Your comments are a bit brash.
People exercise your 2A right. The police may have responded to a traffic crash, maybe a stabbing, and a justified shooting with the right cituzen. All the driver of the car did is what any reasonable human would gave done and was met with violence. Civilized People do not have to put up with, or accept violence towards them.
You have an inalienable right to defend yourself if you are in fear for your life.
Driver may have been in the wrong!!🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Too bad the driver didn’t shoot him stone dead. Waste of space.
