Homeless man arrested for taking Amazon packages
BY JENNIFER CABRERA
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Steven Michael Coleman, 35, who is listed as homeless on the arrest report, was arrested yesterday afternoon for two counts of petit theft, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, a University of Florida Police Officer, who was patrolling in response to reports of package thefts at Tanglewood Village, reported that Coleman picked up two FedEx packages, looked them over, then put them back down. He then allegedly walked to another building and took an Amazon package.
The officer detained Coleman and reportedly found several tools that are commonly used for cutting and breaking locks. Coleman also reportedly volunteered that he had some methamphetamine in his pocket, and a small bag of methamphetamine was found.
Coleman has two misdemeanor drug convictions and has a sworn complaint from September, alleging that he stole the car of his roommate at the time. Bail information is unavailable on weekends.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Could use a makeover.
He probably claimed the front porches were his…
Anyone been downtown lately? There’s homeless vagrants with blankets hanging for makeshift homes. What’s ironic is this is Poe’s doing but his private Gestapo don’t let them loiter around City Hall.
Thanks to high taxes and high utility rates, the number is going up.
Cops, give the homeless notes saying leave college towns, unless they enjoy being hopeless.
This jerk was probably stealing someone’s Christmas gifts. What makes it worse is that he didn’t even know what he was stealing since everything was in boxes.
