Homeless man arrested for throwing rock at passing car

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – David Allen Dunson, 41, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with throwing a deadly missile into a vehicle.

At 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, the victim was in his SUV, stopped in traffic at the intersection of SW Archer Road and SW 40th Blvd when he saw a man pick up a rock or piece of asphalt that was about three inches in diameter. The victim said the man threw the rock at the passenger side of his vehicle, and it hit hard enough to chip paint from the door in three places and left a small dent. The rock hit about eight inches below a window where a passenger was sitting. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $400.

Dunson has four local felony convictions and is on state probation for a battery conviction. He is being held on $5,000 bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • 4 Felony convictions whatever happened to the 3 strike rule? This man needs help and to be kept away from Society. What does it take is a fair question! Someone could of been seriously hurt.

  • What is the GNV CC and the Alachua Couhty CC doing to address the panhandling, crime, trespassing & other problems associated with the influx of vagrants & homeless neighbors we are having? Has this item been placed on either agenda to
    Be addressed with public comment?
    It’s getting out of hand.

    • Take a look over by Wood You furniture at the corner of N Main and NE 16th Ave, on the north side of the road. You’ll see about 8 to 10 bikes, shopping carts, and big piles of junk. A whole caravan shows up every day. It’s only a matter of time until the violence escalates more, as far as the recent incidents. Pretty soon they’ll be defecating everywhere, breaking in cars, publicly using IV drugs and discarding the needles, and having sex (men) in the bushes next to your kid’s school. That’s just what happens in the real world. You can always address something like this in the general public comments.

      • “You can always address something like this in the general public comments”? The city manager needs to address the problem….it’s her job to run a clean, crime free city and provide essential services……she has never seen a panhandler in the street median? She hasn’t seen the increased crime and blight that’s caused by other counties releasing their inmates to Grace to receive benefits? Parents send their kids to UF because it’s a college town. We don’t need anymore names on the 34th St wall…it’s time to clean up the city,
Bring them all to Grace, process them, & send them back to where they came from.

  • All probably because the driver didnt give money to him and/or told him to get a job. I wonder if the bum missed his calling as a minor league pitcher?
