Homeless man arrested for throwing rock through window of Santa Fe College property
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – David Angelo Lunedei, Jr., 42, was arrested yesterday and charged with property damage over $1,000 after allegedly throwing a rock through a window of a Santa Fe College property.
At about 12:20 p.m., Santa Fe College Police Department officers responded to a report of a damaged window on a vacant storefront at 10 NW 6th Street, a property owned by the Santa Fe College Foundation. The owner of a nearby business told the officers that he had seen a man pick up a rock and throw it through the window; he said the suspect was a white male with a “scruffy” beard, pushing a walker. Another witness also reportedly saw the incident and confirmed the business owner’s account.
At about 2:55 p.m., the business owner called SFPD to report that the suspect was panhandling at the intersection of NW 6th Street and University Avenue. Officers found Lunedei at the intersection, standing next to a walker, and detained him.
Post Miranda, Lunedei reportedly admitted throwing the rock into the building, damaging the window. He reportedly said that he gets “angry” and throws things; he said he is homeless and did not know how he would pay any restitution for the damage.
The property manager told the officers that it would cost about $1,600 to replace the window.
Lunedei has one felony conviction (violent) from 1989 and an unspecified criminal history in Massachusetts. Judge Gloria Walker released him on his own recognizance.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Our first homeless city ambassador! I bet he tossed the rock/brick into Ward’s city hall window too….. how perfect karma is in our fair community!
💩👹🤡🍦🍦🍦🍦D
Maybe Poe or Ward will offer to pay for the damages, they’ve milked taxpayers for enough to take care of a little $1000 window.
Unless people have forgotten, they also were instrumental in offering the invite.
All the way from Massachusetts? That’s not a short “stone’s throw” to Gainesville.
Hood Rats,
Roll Out!
I got that from a Transformers movie 😝
Loony Lunedei!!1!🤯🥳🤪
And why did he decide to come here, exactly?
Lower taxes than Massachusetts?
Wore out his welcome?
Likes the Gators?
Free phone calls from jail?
Local government policies come to mind…I think the phone calls and other free stuff is the right answer.
This may work…..exactly! Thought all these homeless were locals.
The homeless have a network, they know where to go.
My homeless family member is currently in Ft. Worth, TX….was in Dallas briefly, Dallas apparently has zero tolerance for the homeless. Thought Ft Worth would be better……not! Gets his disability check tomorrow, going to sleep at the airport so he can catch a flight to NC.
free bus pass
Another sanctuary ‘newcomer’ courtesy of the commissioners welcoming and supportive policies of the workless, stealmore, and homeless.
Ward should personally pay to replace that window.
Just like the orange one gets mad and throws things.
I worked with him about a year ago at a certain higher end restaurant in Butler. He rode a bike there and was on time every single day, one of the nicest individuals i have worked with. Learned fast and wanted to learn everything, just a really nice guy. Apparently his girlfriend kicked him out and he spiraled after that. You could tell he was already a bit off-beat mentally but it has been sad to see his decline, especially knowing how good of a person he actually was, and a hard worker.
Dude was 7 in 1989. Safe to say the violent felony conviction was another guy. Do your homework Alachua Chronicle
