Homeless man arrested for trespassing at Eastside High School following large fight
BY JENNIFER CABRERA
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tjamal Evoris Peterson, 40, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, was arrested yesterday and charged with trespassing on school grounds after jumping the fence onto school property while deputies were breaking up a nearby fight.
At about 2:50 p.m. yesterday, numerous Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a large fight at Eastwood Meadows apartments; the caller said the fight involved approximately 100 youths who were primarily Eastside High School students. Most of the youths scattered when deputies arrived, but deputies saw a man, later identified as Peterson, jumping the fence to the high school.
School administrators approached Peterson, but he reportedly refused to speak to them; deputies pursued him through the school and eventually detained him. The arrest report notes that school had just ended, so there were numerous teachers, parents, and students on the campus at the time.
Deputies arrested Peterson for trespassing. Peterson has three felony convictions and has served two state prison sentences for aggravated stalking and felony battery; he was most recently released in 2015. He is on pre-trial release for cocaine possession and has a pending sworn complaint for domestic battery. He served 30 days in the Alachua County Jail in November 2022 after being convicted of driving without a valid license. Judge Walter Green set bail at $5,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
GRACE is simply a courthouse annex, and bail bonds hotel.
To clarify, just because someone lists GRACE as their address, it doesn’t mean they’re staying there. Some folks simply need to cite a physical address in order to receive mail and other essential resources.
Whatever…they’re still bums.
A decorated military veteran had their rent raised and cannot afford to stay. He has to sleep where he can now – with friends, family, etc. He still needs to reliably receive mail until he can secure housing, so he uses GRACE’s address. Is this a bum to you?
very true…….
