Homeless man charged with breaking 13 glass doors at Wawa
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jaquan Tyrell Jones, 30, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with felony property damage after allegedly using a glass punch to damage 13 glass doors at the Wawa across from campus (1614 W. University Ave.).
At about 3:29 a.m., Jones allegedly entered the Wawa and used a glass punch tool to break 13 glass doors on beverage cases. An employee of the business told the responding Gainesville Police Department Officer that each door is worth about $1,000, so the total damage was approximately $13,000.
Post Miranda, Jones reportedly said he broke the glass doors because he had a warrant out of Virginia and was tired of running. The officer noted that no arrest warrant was found for Jones.
Jones, who is described as homeless in court documents, has a criminal history in Virginia from 2011 to 2024, cases in other Florida counties in the past 2 years, and one Florida felony conviction (non-violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $5,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Ambassador Jones was merely suggesting to the UF students who frequent the Wawa that there are more healthful drink options for them to consider.
Yes Mr. Peabody, as the back-Ward Mayor of Gainesville, I have moved Mr. Jones’ application to the top of the list for immediate approval for his ambassadorship for the city of Gainesville. I am actually considering putting him in charge of ambassador recruiting, but then again that’s what dis-Grace Drug and Violence Market place is for.
Guess he wanted some AC for a few days. Another convict on the fair streets of Ward’s world.
Wow, what a complete jerk. I feel bad for Wawa. First they had to change the hours on their eastside site because of the crowds showing up and drinking late at night, and now they have to pay to replace all of those doors at this site.
The judge will order him to pay restitution, ha ha ha.
businesses will stop coming here. It’s what happens in all blue cities.
I wonder why nobody wants to open a business on the east side of town??? It’s already started the hobo gas station at Waldo and uni had to close so they are moving west.
W. University Ave. since it appears you missed it.
That being said, outstanding warrant in Virginia and all of a sudden he gets tired of running when he gets to Gainesville?
When are you liberal lemmings going to get rid of the liberal lunatics who continue to keep the vacancy lights on?
Concerned Citizen didn’t miss anything. The Circle K at the intersection of Waldo and EAST University recently closed. That was the “hobo” gas station referenced in the comment.
According to the article this happened on West University Avenue.
This was west unv not east. Read before you rant Karen lol
It’s crazy how alachua cronicals marks everyone homeless 🤣
Fits Gainesville pretty well. Let’s all feel sorry for these homeless thugs….
The Chronicle doesn’t mark them as homeless, that is just how the police record their residence or lack of it, I’m sure, and the Chronicle just reports what the police record. Anyway, it’s interesting how quickly “glass punch tools” have spread from San Francisco to dear little ole Hogtown.

Why was he attracted to Gainesville?
Why is judge Miller still employed?
What is it with WaWa? They seem to attract criminals.
Locations, mainly.
“Tired of running.” So he runs to the open arms of Gainesville.
