Homeless man charged with threatening bar patron with knife, stabbing victim’s car tire and windshield

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – George Robert Carlyon, 33, was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly threatening a man with a knife and then stabbing the victim’s car tire and windshield after both men left a downtown bar.

At about 3:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, a Gainesville Police Department Officer responded to the 200 block of SE 1st Street, where the victim said Carlyon followed him to his car after he declined Carlyon’s advances at a nearby bar. The victim said that Carlyon threatened him with a six-inch pocketknife and yelled, “I’m going to f***ing hurt you, I’m going to f***ing kill you.” The victim said he grabbed his guitar to defend himself and got in his car before Carlyon stabbed his tire and windshield. The victim said Carlyon then walked away to find his dog.

The officer reported that the front windshield of the victim’s car was damaged, and he could hear air being released from a slash on a tire. The officer estimated the damage at $800.

The officer reported that while he was at the scene, an unidentified witness pointed to Carlyon and yelled, “That’s him – that’s the one you’re looking for.”

Post Miranda, Carlyon reportedly denied all the allegations and said the victim had tried to steal his shoe. The officer reported that a six-inch pocketknife was found in a search incident to arrest, but Carlyon reportedly “deflected” all questions about the knife.

Carlyon, who is described as homeless in court documents, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and property damage over $200. He has six misdemeanor convictions (none violent). Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $30,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Why always characterize them as “homeless man”? The fact that they are homeless has nothing to do with why they are crazy animals. Call them Psychos, Nut-jobs, Bums, Druggies, etc. That is why they behave this way. Homelessness is just a symptom of their character flaws, not the cause of these actions.

    • Because local policies and NGO grant recipients attract and keep homeless here in our college town of quicksand. Voters need to know they elected clowns and should un-elect this kind in the future. 🤡👹👿

    • This is the world of political correctness (as according to the political left). You have to label everyone, but in a PC manner. If it’s a person with a sports, teaching or school history, mention it, especially if that has nothing to do with the situation.

      • Well, if you want to truly be PC, I believe those in California are referring to homeless as “houseless” or “unhoused”. Yes, we have stooped to an all time new ridiculous low with these effing terms….

    • Oh he’s not homeless that’s just clickbait so all you right wing idiots feel like you’re Superior somebody. Nowhere in the police report does it say he’s homeless but the so-called victim has been arrested for kidnapping armed robbery but yet you won’t even look that up you’ll just believe whatever this page says they don’t even published the whole police report they just take pieces out of it . Yeah right the news you can trust. LMFAO

  • George will have plenty of opportunities for a date while in jail.

  • Another of Poe’s patrons. Obviously he’s not a patron saint of anything – Poe or this guy. Carlyon would be of more use to nature as carrion.

  • “Post Miranda, Carlyon reportedly denied all the allegations and said the victim had tried to steal his shoe.” I may not be Sherlock, but I suspect that most serious shoe thieves would go for a pair.

  • Anyone want to go downtown for a nice dinner or lunch? I hear the homeless ambiance will make it a unique experience you will not soon want to repeat.

  • Homeless clickbait for this page nowhere in the police report does it say this guy is homeless. His record show he’s only been arrested for a little bit of pot and driving on a suspended license for no insurance. But the so-called victim has been arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery. Something just doesn’t add up.

  • I personally know George and his sweet pup, Pijin. He is smart man, a stand up comedian, he does great flooring work, and he is kind to others. It seems he made a big mistake here, but he’s a human. I’m sure there’s more to this story.
