Homeless man on probation arrested for breaking into Hawthorne home
Staff report
HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Zackary Terrell Harnage, 48, was arrested yesterday after allegedly breaking into the home of a woman who had been away for a few weeks.
On February 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a home in the Campville area, where a neighbor of the homeowner said she had been checking on the home in the owner’s absence; she said the home was secure on February 3, but at about 11:30 a.m. on February 5, she found a rear window broken. She started to enter the home, but when she found the back door unlocked, broken glass on the floor, and the odor of cigarettes, she went back outside and called 911.
Deputies reportedly found Harnage on the side of the roadway near the house; they reported that he seemed very nervous, said he was in pain, and provided his first name. Meanwhile, other deputies were viewing security camera footage and found that Harnage had been clearly captured on video, both in the home and on the property.
Harnage allegedly entered the home after breaking a window, and when inside, he allegedly rummaged through the homeowner’s belongings and removed security cameras.
When deputies tried to take Harnage into custody, he reportedly resisted, but he was eventually placed in handcuffs.
Post Miranda, Harnage reportedly declined to speak with a deputy.
Harnage, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has been charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, property damage, and resisting an officer without violence. He was also booked on a warrant for violating probation on a traffic offense; his probation officer reported in October 2025 that he had not checked in for two months, had not paid his cost of supervision, had not paid his fines, and had not provided proof that he had completed his community service hours or attended Advanced DUI School.
Harnage has five misdemeanor convictions (one violent) and is on probation. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail until the probation violation is resolved and set bail at $105,000 on the new charges.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Why would you put this idiot in probation. He is not going to show up court, not going to pay his fines, and not going to complete any classes.
Hell , next month alaucha County and the city of Gainesville will make him a citizen of the month he is the exact poster child that they crave to have
Agreed. Putting a person like this on probation or assigning the rehabilitation stuff only serves to justify paychecks for people running the probation & rehabilitation system.

Instead of probation why not show proof of moving away someplace else?
