Homeless man with 34 convictions arrested for battery near UF campus that left victim’s ear dangling
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Daniel Phillip Myrick, 38, was arrested early this morning for allegedly attacking a man near the UF campus, leaving the victim with a chunk of his ear dangling.
At about 1:15 a.m. on May 3, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the 1700 block of West University Avenue, where he found the victim with a laceration on his eyebrow that was bleeding profusely, an eye swollen shut, and a laceration to his ear that left a chunk of his ear dangling.
Multiple witnesses reportedly identified Myrick as the man who had hit the victim multiple times, and the victim reportedly said Myrick had hit him.
Myrick reportedly stated spontaneously that he had knocked someone out.
Post Miranda, Myrick reportedly said he did not want to tell the officer what had happened.
Myrick, whose address is listed as the former St. Francis House, has been charged with felony battery. He has nine felony convictions (two violent), 22 misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and three criminal traffic convictions; he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2020. Judge Adam Lee set bail at $75,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

He should go visit the City Commissioners. They obviously aren’t using their ears because they keep inviting more and more homeless to the area — many are bringing their crimes and filth with them. They’re not vested in the community so they couldn’t care less about keeping it clean.
Until enough Democrat voters open their eyes or are directly affected we can expect these types of crimes to continue. They voted for it, I didn’t.
St Francis House and Grace the 2 biggest problems in the GSSR besides the Commies who run everything being the 1st. If any one seen the new congressional district maps that would be a great idea for getting rid of some blue counties like the GSSR. The state should redo the counties like that then all you got is 3 small blue counties with no power.

The lowest common denominator is that Gainesville has become a magnet for murder, shootings, criminals because the Mayor and City Commission welcome homeless criminals and drifters with open arms.
HOW HOW HOW can someone have this many convictions and not be in jail?
Because prosecutors and judges keep kicking the can down the road being fueled by a woke agenda from the past.
As a person who has worked in criminal justice/courts/jail in Alachua County, I say you have a skewed view. In the late 80s and early 90s crime was at least double what it is now. Ans this is most of the country. Yearly murders used to be in tge HUNDREDS for big cities, and Gvl had more than usual due to the percentage of young men in our population. When it comes to crime, there is no good old days.
That’s REPORTED crimes, but which most are not being reported now. Victims see what a joke our system is. It’s time to replace and demote judges and public attorneys.
Yes, it is true that we now have some of the LOWEST HOMICIDES in our recorded history. And it is true that colonial America from best analyses, was even more dangerous. Nevertheless — some individuals are obviously dangerous and efforts should be more substantial to remove them from the public for LONG periods of time, and efforts to provide housing without developing personal accountability are doomed to expensive and disastrous failure with the public harmed over and over. My opinion.
Work on Changing Lives, growing character and you can do far more good for the homeless. I’ve worked with them in various ways for years…..charity done in person, with wisdom is much better than throwing dollars. It is hard work, however….

So you just admitted to be part of the problem of how Alachua County justice system works low bill slap on wrist for crimes ROR
No, things were different then versus now. You didn’t swing at cops or act out unless you wanted your ears boxed. Sure the 80s and 90s were violent but when you were arrested you stayed in jail. Once convicted you went to prison with the wolves. People did not tolerate woke agendas or light sentences. Outside of the student murders, and property crimes Gainesville was relatively safe. Criminals seemed to target other criminals especially drug crimes.
Plus mental illness was treated different. If you were mental ill and violent you went to a mental health lock up and were not released till someone deemed you better.
Obviously he should be incarcerated forever. When will Lawyer DeSantis do something repeat offenders? Is he being blackmailed by the ACLUSPLCDNC or something?
It’s the city & county commissioners who are complicit by inviting vagrants here and can’t keep the panhandlers and bums out of street medians…don’t blame DeSantis.
Homelessness is big biz! How much tax money is spent on Grace mkt and the buying of motels so the bums can live comfy here & free? Maybe your ear will be dangling off next…
What we need in the state not just the wokeville of Gainesville and Alachua County is a law that if government officials encourage homeless to hang out and when they damaged property of a taxpayer or damage a business the taxpayershould be able to hold the mayor, the city Council and county commissioners responsible and sue them in court for the damages
¡Holla if you hear me!
So, the commissioners are now going to help attract more of this with the hotels they are converting for non housed people (AKA Homeless criminals). Just stop or take them into your house!
