Homeless man with 37 convictions arrested downtown for indecent exposure

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Andrew James Brown Jr., 47, was arrested yesterday for allegedly exposing himself near a downtown park with children present.

At about 1:17 p.m. on June 22, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Lynch Park (450 South Main Street), where the victim said he saw Brown walking back and forth on the sidewalk next to the park, exposing his genitals and stroking himself, for about 25 minutes. He said he initially had not wanted to get involved, but he decided to report the incident because he saw children nearby.

The officer found Brown walking a few blocks away. Post Miranda, Brown declined to make any statements.

Brown, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with indecent exposure of sexual organs (first offense). He has 23 felony convictions (four violent) and 14 misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and he has served 10 state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2023. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $2,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Gainesville Judge’s seem to have a big problem. Soft on crime. Be careful what Judges you vote into office. There is one in Gainesville that has signs everywhere. Do a background check before voting. A bunch of campaign sign means nothing about how he will Judge the law.

  • Perfect, one block from the new courthouse!

    ACLUSPLCDNC approved this message 👿🤡👹👺💩

  • Another fine citizen, sponsored by the idiots of CITY and County government they should be getting reports on homeless crime against taxpayers along with domestic violent crimes

  • Give the dude a break….he was just rehearsing for his next gig as a street performer at the all new “Streetery Should be quite a $hit show.

  • 23, count em people, 23 FELONY convictions! And he is out walking among ya’ll (or was.)
What does that tell you about your district attorney? Chances are one of the liberal judges in the 8th circuit will cut him loose with an ankle monitor (no battery) so he can roam the streets again.
So glad I left that county years ago.

  • Same day as the newest predatory con artist at GRACE Marketplace, Mark Bonner, took over as mafia boss for this scam organization.

In their own press release (no replies allowed), they claim to be committed to both ending homelessness and growing the size of their criminal organization. These goals are mutually exclusive, and we all know the first goal is pure BS.

The only thing Mark Bonner and the rest of the bottom feeders who work at GRACE Marketplace care about is bringing as many violent, drug-addicted homeless as possible to the county so they can get more funding.

    • Yep…unfortunately you are right about the funding. Someone once famously said….”It’s all about the Benjamin$”

    • So start up a drug treatment and mental health center so these people can conquer their demons and won’t be mentally ill, drug addicted and/or homeless anymore! Problem solved.

        • Oooohhh, a whole year for misdemeanor indecent exposure. Yeah, that will teach him something he hasn’t already learned. OK.

        • And each time he is prosecuted, you ARE spending taxpayer $ on him so pick your poison.
