Homeless woman arrested for attacking Wawa clerk
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lakerra Jakeidra McKinnon, 27, was arrested yesterday and charged with petit theft and resisting merchant detainment after allegedly pushing her way behind a counter in an attempt to steal tobacco products and then pushing a clerk to the floor on June 8; on her way out of the store, she allegedly stole three bags of Doritos.
At about 11:17 p.m. on June 8, McKinnon allegedly entered the Wawa at 1614 W. University Avenue and filled a drink cup with ice. She allegedly walked behind the counter, where she encountered a store employee. The employee reportedly put his hand up to stop her from entering the employee area behind the counter, but she allegedly pushed past him and took tobacco products from a case behind the counter. The employee reportedly tried to stop her from leaving with the tobacco products, and she again allegedly pushed the employee. During the struggle, she allegedly pushed the employee to the floor and fell to the floor with him; the employee reportedly took the tobacco products from her, and the drink cup was destroyed as she struggled with the employee.
After the employee had taken the merchandise back from McKinnon, he reportedly let her get up and walk out, but as she left the store, she allegedly grabbed three bags of Doritos, valued at about $12.
The employee sustained a small scrape on his arm during the struggle.
Gainesville Police Department investigators developed McKinnon as a suspect using video evidence, and post Miranda, she reportedly identified herself on the store surveillance video. She reportedly admitted entering the store, going into the employee area, struggling with the store employee, and taking items on her way out of the store.
McKinnon, who is described as homeless in court documents, has 13 misdemeanor convictions (none violent) and two pending sworn complaints for retail theft. Senior Judge Aymer “Buck” Curtin set bail at $5,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
All of you progressive liberals, when you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror – just say, “I’m partially to blame.”
The others to blame are those you’ve elected to local office.
What’s it going to take? Something happening to your family?
We’re armed same as you, nothing is going to happen to us or our families, you fascist conservative right wing nut job.
And you’re still getting your warm milk before you go to bed. Sleep tight, although I doubt Ward or Poe is doing much to protect you.
You guys and gals on the radical left usually have mental episodes and/or drug freak-outs and end up assaulting each other without anyone else being involved. Or maybe your 350 lb. body-positive wife will roll over and smother you one night.
Nobody on the conservative right is ever the bad guy? Oh except that Newberry guy who just got arrested for soliciting a minor. And as far as leftie women being fat, I’ll tell you how I can identify a female Trump supporter: past middle age, very overweight and lots of makeup. And a general unpleasant look on their face. Haven’t been wrong yet.
Crazy as a bedbug. Had to get something for nothing.
Yet the city government has open arms to the point of begging them to stay here in
Yaay Judge Curtain!
For what? Setting a low bail of 5,000?
That’s good Wawa doesn’t demand that employees just stand back and let them run out the door with as much merchandise as they can carry. She looks like a real “I’m entitled to everything” piece of work. I have heard that Wawa store may have to close if they can’t get the shoplifting under control.
I’m beginning to think that’s the reason Buc-ee’s didn’t consider coming to Alachua County.
Maybe it’s time the county decides whether it wants to encourage economic growth or homelessness.
Agreed — especially on the east side of town! Politicians keep saying they want the Eastside to be developed, but then they put up with this garbage all the time. The two don’t mix. You cannot allow this kind of garbage to continue and expect businesses to want to open and stay open over here. It’s not gonna happen! The Circle K across the street already closed! Get it together, city “leaders”!
The store is on west University avenue.
Its on the Westside of town don’t get it twisted its rock heads meth head powder heads over there too they wearing suits and ties
I read awhile back that something like 14 Wawas were shutting down in Philly due to crime. Philly is the home of Wawa.
they already reduced their operating hours due to crime and drug use there
That’s the one on E Univ Ave. This one in Midtown (W Univ Ave) is open 24 hours.
I just realized I had the wrong location in my other comment. I was thinking it was the Wawa near Waldo Road.
Different store.
Maybe this criminal has a future as a Wawa Ambassador.
Oh boy….another “Wack’ attack. Thanks City commission for the pro ‘Wacko” agenda.
Let’s invite all these homeless people to County Commission meetings. Entice them to go and pressure to Commissioners for mor Freebees’.
I’ll chip on for a box of Krispy Kremes
yo many homeless won’t steal a meal with hunger discomfort, really!
Get a haircut please
Sorry but I had to laugh: Lakerra Jakeidra attacks Wawa….just stuck me funny.
How lovely. Another local ambassador welcoming new college freshman across from campus?
