Homeless woman arrested for battering man and police officer in Midtown area

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Carlyann Lampkin, 44, was arrested early this morning for allegedly throwing a liquid on a man in the Midtown area and then kicking an officer after she was arrested.

A responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at about 1:30 a.m. on June 16, Lampkin accused the victim of being racist, and then she tried to grab him and threw a clear liquid at him before running away. While officers were still gathering information, a witness said he had seen the incident and reported that Lampkin was at the corner of NW 10th Street and West University Avenue, involved in another fight with the victim.

Officers found Lampkin there and placed her in handcuffs. She allegedly dropped a small plastic container, which reportedly contained a glass pipe with burnt residue, a marijuana pipe, and about 0.1 grams of a white powder that tested positive for fentanyl.

When officers tried to place Lampkin in the back of the patrol vehicle, she allegedly kicked an officer in the leg.

At the jail, she allegedly tried to pull away from officers and dragged her feet, forcing officers to pick her up and physically escort her into the jail.

Lampkin, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has been charged with battery on a police officer, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer without violence. She declined to speak with Court Services about how long she has been in the area, but she has two misdemeanor convictions in Florida (non-violent) and an unspecified criminal history in Georgia and Ohio between 2000 and 2025. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $17,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • It would be nice if the CITY would treat the homeless crimes against taxpayers the same as they do domestic violence crimes but I guess that would never happen

    • G: I think it’s easier to eliminate homeless crimes than domestic violence crimes…

I wonder what Mayor Wards’ perspective is on this…

  • Makes me want to spend 20 bucks to park, 100 bucks for dinner and 90 bucks for a show at the Hipp…..Our downtown has been made such a special place to visit by the city commission….
