Homeless woman arrested for hitting man at bus stop with cinder block

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Amanda Elaine Cohen-Avery, 42, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated battery after allegedly hitting a man at a bus stop with a cinder block.
Cohen-Avery, whose listed address is GRACE Marketplace, reportedly walked up to the victim while he was sitting at a bus stop at 901 N. Main Street, holding a cinder block. A witness told a Gainesville Police Department officer that as Cohen-Avery approached the victim, she said the victim called her the N-word, and the victim said he didn’t know what she was talking about. Cohen-Avery then allegedly raised the cinder block above her head and forcefully brought it down on the back of the victim’s head, causing the victim’s head to bleed.
Cohen-Avery was also arrested on a warrant that was issued after a sworn complaint was filed in February, alleging that she spit on and then threw a rock at a neighbor; at the time, her listed address was in the Holly Heights area.
Cohen-Avery has two felony convictions (one violent) and eight misdemeanor convictions (none violent). She has an active warrant out of Orange County, FL. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $100,000 on the new charge and $20,000 on the February charges.

How do you know what was said? She may be just crazy and making things up. With your point of view then everytime a white person is called cracker the appropriate response is to hit them in the head with a cinder block. Even if it was said that doesnt justify a violent response.
Bear9765, you know how crackers got their name? The slave owners were called crackers. You know why? When the slaves would warn their fellow slaves that the owners were coming they’d say here comes the crackers because some of them would crack their whips to intimidate the slaves.
I know exactly how Crackers got there name. But being a southern Georgia raised family man I can tell you my ancestors were never rich enough to own slaves, or afford much else. Only whip cracking my family did was herding kivestock. I consider it an insult to be referred to as a slave owner so tuck that in your hat.
I am referring to the general slur of the word Cracker which I have heard referred towards white people in the south as well as in several northern states.
I agree, but slurs against white people seem to be ok but as soon as a white person says the ‘n’ word it is blown way out of control. I don’t agree with any slurs but our world is crazy now.

The US has a terrible problem with these homeless crazy people, because they can’t work – they are certifiably insane – and there’s nowhere to put them. They need medical care and honestly they need to be locked up but also be treated humanely and with dignity….but also not let out to just wander and harass strangers. Can we agree on that?
Middle class Democrats don’t want to see crazy homeless people walking around anymore than you GOP voters do. There’s really just no way to lock them up at this point, because nobody wants to pay extra $$$ on their taxes to make it happen.

What we do know is this, Gainesville doesn’t lean blue, it’s fallen over the cliff blue. The liberal majority keeps voting for the liberal leadership and their policies. Those policies aren’t working any more than the growing homeless population. Unless you count panhandling as work. Maybe instead of buying hotels for housing we should buy keeping facilities in order to keep those who are a danger to others away. If they can’t get along with others they don’t belong with others.

You got it backwards. The article says that the VICTIM called her the N word. You really should read more closely before popping off like that. You aren’t helping the cause by jumping to conclusions and over-reacting.
