Homeless woman arrested for intentionally burning hotel employee’s hand
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jerrica Michelle Conley, 36, was arrested yesterday for allegedly intentionally burning a hotel employee’s hand after she was asked to leave the hotel.
At about 11:25 a.m. on April 2, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the Hampton Inn (101 SE 1st Ave.), where the victim said she had found Conley on the second floor of the hotel and knew that Conley had been told to leave numerous times. The victim said she escorted Conley to the lobby and told her she had to leave.
Conley reportedly stopped to get coffee from the coffee station in the lobby, and the victim again told her to leave and placed her hand under the spout; Conley allegedly turned on the spout, causing hot coffee to spill onto the victim’s hand. Several other employees helped escort Conley out of the hotel.
Another employee of the hotel reportedly witnessed the incident, and the officer reported that the victim’s hand was red and slightly swollen.
Conley, whose address is listed as St. Francis House, has been charged with simple battery. She has five misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); Judge William Davis ordered her released on her own recognizance.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

The City of Gainesville regular election is on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, for the Mayor At-Large seat, City Commissioner District 2, City Commissioner District 3, and City Commissioner District 4 seats.
To the voters of Gainesville now would be a great time to get these damn idiots out of office elect common sense people who would work on reducing the homeless population in Gainesville. That would definitely decrease crime. It’s a shame that taxpayers has to fund marketplace just to be crapped, by these bastards. It’s also time to look at these ridiculous salaries. They pay Dept heads and question if the CITY needs some of these Dept heads. Remember the only way things can change is your vote I understand Gainesville is a democratic city democratic run. It’s easy to see but I also know there’s Democrats that cannot agree with what’s going on now. Is the time for you to make a change?
I get it now… burn the hand that doesn’t feed me,
