Homeless woman arrested for punching and threatening boyfriend with a knife at GRACE Marketplace

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ebone Jente Gordon, 41, was arrested early this morning after allegedly punching and threatening her boyfriend with a knife at GRACE Marketplace.

At about 7:51 a.m. this morning, Gordon allegedly banged the victim’s head, kicked him in the torso, and punched him in the head after he reportedly asked to use her cell phone. The victim reportedly walked away from her, but she allegedly followed him, pulled a knife from her waist, and tried three times to stab him; the victim reportedly moved back to avoid being stabbed. She allegedly walked into the dorm and gave the knife to an unknown man who could not be located; the knife was not found.

The entire incident was reportedly caught on surveillance video.

Post Miranda, Gordon said she was defending herself because the victim had been punching her all day.

The responding Gainesville Police Department officer noted that Gordon and the victim are both homeless and have been receiving services at GRACE Marketplace.

Gordon has been charged with domestic aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. Her address is listed as Orlando, and she has one felony conviction and two misdemeanor convictions in Orange County, along with a number of dropped charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. Her bail will be set on July 14.

  • GPD might as well staff a 24/7 police desk at the marketplace. That should save on fuel for the cruisers that are daily called in, and might help restrain the inhabitants, thereby taking some workload off the local court system. Seems like a win/win proposition.

  • Wow, you can live at Grace and afford getting hair braids and eyelashes.

    • She might be an exotic dancer like the other one from a couple days ago.

  • Pretty fancy hairdo for a homeless women. Amazing what some of them have $$$ for.

  • Why would a homeless person leave that other blue eutopia of Orlando to come to Gainesville?
    More free stuff?

  • It seems you could swap out the faces and names and just copy/paste this article weekly

  • Just tax the hell out of LAWYERS and Bail Bonders to solely 100% fund disGRACE.

Then we’ll see crime rates plummet. ACLUSPLCDNC 🤡👹👿👺💩

  • So sad. With better parenting she might have gone to Yale or Harvard or been an elected official in Alachua County. Or maybe running the Finance dept at GRU.

  • The headlines stay the same but the photos and names change. 🤡👹👿💩

  • GRACE Marketplace is a clear and present danger to our community and a never-ending drain on our tax resources.

After 10 years of operation, it is clear that this program has been an absolute failure and a disaster for the people of Gainesville and Alachua County.

Not only has GRACE Marketplace and its founder Jon DeCarmine utterly failed in their alleged mission to end homelessness, the homeless problem is worse than it has ever been as Gainesville now serves as a beacon for out-of-county and out-of-state criminals who flood in to our city to prey on the innocent.
