Homeless woman arrested for urinating in parking garage at apartment complex near campus
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Shakira Latreece Campbell, 32, was arrested on March 11 for allegedly urinating in the parking garage of an apartment complex near campus; at the time, she had been out of jail for one week after serving a 45-day sentence for threatening to kill a police officer.
At about 7:56 a.m. on March 11, a maintenance employee of Stadium House Apartments (1642 W. University Avenue) was walking through the parking garage and found Campbell sleeping under the stairs. He told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that he told her to leave; a short time later, he returned to the garage and reportedly found Campbell pulling her pants up next to a puddle of liquid on the ground.
When the employee told her it was “gross” to urinate on the ground, Campbell allegedly became hostile and started screaming at him. She reportedly said she was going to shoot at him, but the employee told the officer that he did not take that seriously. He left the garage at that point and called the police.
The officer reported that when he arrived, Campbell was still screaming at the employee from the garage; when he entered the garage, he saw a small mat and Campbell’s belongings under the stairs, along with a wet spot on the ground. He reported that Campbell was screaming that her father was Lord Kartikeya (a Hindu god) and the employee couldn’t talk to her in any way.
When the officer asked Campbell for her side of the story, she reportedly said she didn’t have to talk to him.
Campbell has been charged with trespassing after a warning and violating a statute that includes outraging the sense of public decency. She has one misdemeanor conviction (violent) for a January incident in which she was asked to leave Publix (203 NW 13th St.) after falling asleep at a table; when an officer found her across the street, she started yelling and threatening to kill the officer, his wife, and his children. She also reportedly stated specifically that she would hang the officer and cut his head off. After she entered a plea of nolo contendere to threatening to kill a law enforcement officer, Judge Meshon Rawls sentenced her to 45 days in jail with credit for 45 days served, and she was released on March 4.
Campbell also has an unspecified criminal history in other Florida counties and in California, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $5,000, and Campbell remains in the Alachua County Jail.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

She’s just misunderstood. (Sarcasm)
Not her again! Some people are homeless for a reason 😵💫🤪
Another lame bail amount for a career criminal. You really have to work at it to get criminal history in nine states.
Thank the locally elected leaders. In one way or another, they’re partially responsible.
She needs shelter and a place to pee. Mayor Harvey don’t you have room at your house?
She’s clearly having some psychiatric issues, and she needs more than being offered.
Shakira needs an psych eval and placement. She going from state after state asking for help! I’m thinking she will either harm someone or someone harm her.
The GCC should have city maintained porta-potties installed througout the town….for the unhoused as well as the ambassadors.
Think they can make them solar and AI powered? When a homeless person goes in one, it alerts the proper authorities for collection and disposal.
Cant do that, they will turn it into their house.
