Honoring the Departed Ceremony to be held on October 19

Press release from Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County Community Support Services, in collaboration with faith-based community organizations, invites the community to attend “Honoring the Departed” on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery (401 S.E. 21st Avenue, Gainesville). “Honoring the Departed” is a ceremony to memorialize indigent individuals that were unclaimed, abandoned, or unknown. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The memorial is a means to honor those buried with no service. It will consist of inspirational readings and songs to honor those who left us in 2021. The memorial service will conclude with reading the names and a closing song and poem offering hope and remembrance.

“Alachua County cares deeply for all of its citizens and is pleased to work with many of our faith-based organizations to honor the indigent we lost in 2021,” said Alachua County Community Stabilization Program Manager Satori Days.

  • Faith based organizations are gathering to honor these people who, regardless of their life circumstances, were human beings. Is this serious? Yes, serious and compassionate.
