Hudson man arrested for threatening stranger with AK-47 in Jonesville

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Eddie Eugene Gammage II, 28, of Hudson, FL, was arrested yesterday on a warrant for an April 22 incident in Jonesville in which he allegedly threatened to kill a woman with an AK-47.

The victim told an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that she had been driving south on NW 143rd Street at about 5:27 p.m. when she had to slow down because of the cars ahead of her. She said she noticed at that time that a blue SUV was tailgating her; when she slowed down, she said, the driver yelled at her out of the window. She said he kept tailgating her, so she tapped her brakes to get him to back off, but he didn’t. She said she tried to turn left into the Publix parking lot in Jonesville, but the SUV swerved to her left to block her from turning. She said she was scared, so she pulled into the Circle K, where the SUV followed her, moved to block her car, and then got out and yelled racial slurs at her, saying he would kill her.

The victim said she drove away from the gas station and continued south on SW 143rd Street, with the SUV following her. She said she pulled into the Laureate subdivision in the 400 block of SW 143rd Street; a short time later, she said, the SUV blocked her again, and the driver got out, holding a black AK-47. She said he pointed it at her and said he was going to kill her but eventually got back into his vehicle and drove away.

The victim provided the tag number of the SUV, and deputies were able to establish that the vehicle had been in the area at the time of the incident. Law enforcement records showed that the vehicle had been stopped by the Ocala Police Department in 2019 and by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in 2021; both times Gammage was the driver.

Deputies conducted a photo line-up using Gammage’s driver’s license photo, and the victim reportedly positively identified Gammage as the man who had allegedly threatened to kill her.

A warrant for Gammage’s arrest was issued on April 30, and Gammage was arrested on May 14.

Gammage has no criminal history. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail, as Judge James Colaw had ordered in the arrest warrant.
