I-75 northbound is closed from mile marker 390 (SR 222/NW 39th Ave) to mile marker 399 (U.S. 441 in Alachua) after a man jumped from the Millhopper Road bridge onto the interstate at 3:36 p.m. today.

According to witness reports and a press release from Florida Highway Patrol, the suicide victim was a 48-year-old white male from Myrtle, MS. Several people pulled over to talk to him, but he suddenly jumped as an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy approached.

The victim landed on the trailer of a semi and landed in the emergency lane. The truck came to a controlled stop about 300 yards north of the overpass. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    • This is what happens in a now hopeless society. So very sad 😭. My heart goes out to all involved.

      • So sorry to hear..You never know what’s going thru someone’s head..Prayers flowing for all….

  • This is going to be the norm in the now hopeless society. My heart goes out to those involved.

  • Heartbreaking. Praying for all involved and for policy makers to understand the helplessness and loneliness of lockdown and fear mongering environment.
