I-75 reopened following investigation of fatal crash
Staff report
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – I-75 has been reopened following the investigation of a fatal crash just south of the Alachua/Marion County line; a 57-year-old Jacksonville woman was killed in the crash, and a 36-year-old Tampa man was seriously injured.
According to a release from Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a van southbound on I-75 near the 372 mile marker in the center lane, and the man was driving a pickup truck southbound in the outside lane. The woman attempted to change lanes to the outside lane as the pickup truck approached, and the right side of the van hit the left front of the pickup truck.
Both cars rotated onto the grassy shoulder, where they overturned and hit multiple trees. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the man was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Sounds like she performed her own pit maneuver. I75 is a death trap.
Other outlets are saying it was a semi truck rolling over on van. Were there 2 different accidents??
The initial reports from FHP mentioned a tractor-trailer and said there were two fatalities. The release after the investigation said it was a pickup truck and one fatality. There may be an error in the release, but it says the vehicle was a pickup truck.
There were 2 different wrecks
2 different wrecks
I75 through Alachua County is straight, flat and level and there is rarely fog or bad weather. I have never understood why there are so many accidents.
