I-75 shut down for fire in vehicle containing ammunition

Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue
MICANOPY, Fla. – This afternoon at about 1:35 p.m., Alachua County Fire Rescue and Micanopy Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire at the 378 mile marker of I-75.Â
Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was fully involved in fire and had multiple propane tanks as well as firearms and ammunition on board and that the fire was spreading into Paynes Prairie. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene first and shut down the interstate in both directions for the safety of the public until fire units could bring the fire under control and mitigate any dangers.Â
ACFR arrived on scene and quickly brought the vehicle fire under control. Ammunition was heard exploding within the vehicle, but the propane tanks had been removed from the vehicle prior to becoming involved in the fire. Once the fire was brought under control and no further hazards were present, the interstate was reopened. Much more to this story. Looking forward to “the rest of the story” to quote Paul Harvey.
