Improvements are on the way for Duval Nature Park

Press release from City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs are excited to announce upcoming improvements at Duval Nature Park, 610 NE 24th Street. The project is expected to begin on Feb. 10 and extend through the summer.

The planned enhancements include:

  • A designated asphalt parking area at the entrance on NE 24th Street
  • A new walking trail around the existing stormwater pond at the eastern end of the park and a pedestrian entrance connecting the neighborhood to the north
  • A new playground
  • A new grill and water fountain located near the existing pavilion
  • New signage throughout the park
  • Stormwater improvements at the northwest corner of the park

AKEA Inc. was awarded the contract for these improvements through a competitive bidding process for a total of $237,000. Funding for this project comes from the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax.

  • May I place my bets now on how long it will take for the park to become a new “Peaceful Sundays” destination, and for there to be shots fired in the parking lot?

    • Gosh, no, the GCC and ACC have hired high-priced consultants who are gonna end all the “shots fired” news, haven’t they? It just takes some hugs and cash stuffed in some pockets, no?
