Independence Day message from Mayor Harvey Ward

Press release from the City of Gainesville

Dear Neighbors,

On this Independence Day, I’m thinking about the true character of the United States—and the quiet, steady work of preserving our strengths while rising above our challenges.

America’s story has always been a mix of grit and hope. We’ve hit bumps, but we’ve also kept going—driven by the belief that tomorrow will be better. That spirit lives right here in Gainesville. It’s in the way we care for each other, speak up for what’s right, and make room for everyone at the table.

Patriotism doesn’t have to shout. More often it looks like neighbors lending a hand, communities coming together, and people choosing to listen to each other.

So today, let’s celebrate more than independence. Let’s celebrate connection, progress, and the kind of hope that rolls up its sleeves and keeps showing up, ready to work.

Happy Fourth of July, Gainesville.

Harvey

      John Lee Hooker

How bout a block party instead?

    • My message starts with “I am thinking about” we all know I think of nothing but doNUTZ in my mouth. Do you underlings really think I think about you? How about NO!!!! I mean hell NO!!! When I am thinking of you it is simply how can I continue to drain your wallet for my pet projects and doNUTZ habit.

    • Agree… notice the words that are missing? “Liberty”, “freedom”, “self-governance”, et c. That bit about “celebrate more than independence” is frankly insulting, too.

OTOH, I’d bet five bucks that chatGPT had a big part in the composition.

      • “Self governance”?

Seriously, from those like you cheering on stripping away GRU from the votesr and owners in the city? You don’t GAF about self governance and that is a proven fact.

  • He may say it, but the last thing he wants is to “make room for everyone at the table.”

By the looks of it, he’s the one spending a lot of time at the table.

  • Get the h*e*l*l out of Alachua County you n*a*z*i republicans. You all are not welcome here! Go away and stay away! We Democrats h*a*t*e and d*e*s*p*i*s*e you.

    • Really sad and pathetic.
You hate and despise republicans but you love and invite criminals and homeless to Alachua County.

Seems you and your priorities are out of whack.

    • Calm down Son. Take a deep breath, take your medications and rest assured – God loves you and I will pray for you.

  • Right wing creeps here start another stupid mud fight thread and are shocked when they get a response.

Hey, it’s a freaking Happy 4th message of benign banality which every mayor in America issues and these cretins act like it’s a captured cable from Soros to the KGB.

      • Throwing stones in a glass house…PDiddy like guy? “Liberty University scandal” primarily revolves around Jerry Falwell Jr., the former president of Liberty University, and his personal conduct. He resigned in 2020 following a series of controversies, including a suggestive photo, accusations of an affair with a business partner’s wife, and subsequent lawsuits. These incidents led to accusations of breach of contract and fiduciary duty, prompting Liberty University to sue him for millions. Furthermore, the university faced scrutiny for its handling of Title IX issues and crime reporting, resulting in a significant fine.”

  • Progress means more empty affordable apartments and houses. Progress will soon mean more parks to pay for than people in the county.
