Indiana man hit by truck and killed while walking on NE 53rd Avenue

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 68-year-old man from Indianapolis, IN, was hit by a truck and killed early this morning while walking on NE 53rd Avenue near Waldo Road.

At about 1:10 a.m. this morning, a tractor-trailer driven by a 60-year-old Jacksonville man was traveling east on NE 53rd Avenue when it hit the pedestrian, who was walking in the eastbound travel lane, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck and his passenger were not injured.

  • From Indiana, walking at 1:00 in the morning, down 53rd, I’d be willing to bet this is another homeless casualty. At least it wasn’t another casualty of the homeless.
    Unfortunate but it could have been avoided by a number of ways.
    He must not have gotten the memos; disGrace is on 39th and as a pedestrian, you’re supposed to walk facing traffic.
