Jacksonville man arrested for stealing purse of man he met for sex

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jai Nigel Robinson, 19, of Jacksonville, was arrested late last night and charged with stealing a purse valued at $1,330.
At about 9:40 p.m. last night, Robinson was reportedly in a hotel room at a hotel off SW 34th Street; he and the victim had reportedly met with the intention to engage in sexual activity. Robinson allegedly tried to take the victim’s purse, which was valued at $1,330, but put it down after the victim told him to give it back. Later, while the victim was undressing, Robinson allegedly snatched the purse, ran out the door, and left the hotel in a vehicle.
The victim reportedly sent Robinson a text saying he’d called the police, and Robinson reportedly sent a text saying it was a “prank.” He returned the purse while police were present.
Post Miranda, Robinson reportedly admitted taking the purse and leaving the property but maintained that he did it “as a prank.” Robinson has been charged with grand theft over $750; he has no criminal record and was released on his own recognizance.
