Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 30-year-old Jacksonville man was killed last night in a head-on crash on NE Waldo Road.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 11:45 p.m. on April 11, the Jacksonville man was driving a sedan eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 24 (NE Waldo Road). A pickup truck driven by a 21-year-old Middleburg man was traveling westbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 24, with a 19-year-old female passenger from Macclenny and a 21-year-old male passenger from Middleburg.
The vehicles collided near NE 53rd Terrace, the pickup truck overturned, and the driver and passengers suffered minor injuries; all three were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
The sedan caught fire and became engulfed in flames; the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

How awful…
So tragic for all, especially the driver who died, and his loved ones… Is there anything we can learn from this tragedy, to help prevent another similar tragedy?
The article doesn’t give us any information about why he was driving on the wrong side of the road – maybe he was impaired? In any case, “don’t drive on the wrong side of the road” is the first lesson I see.
