Jail inmate charged with 40 new misdemeanors after allegedly calling victim 1,464 times on free jail phones
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kenneth Bernard Woodridge, Jr., 24, an inmate at the Alachua County Jail, has been charged with 40 counts of violating his pre-trial release conditions after allegedly calling his victim 1,464 times on the free jail phones.
Woodridge was originally arrested on July 20, 2024, on domestic violence and burglary charges, and his bail was set at $115,000. At his First Appearance hearing, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim in that case (this order is referred to as a “pre-trial release condition” although Woodridge remained in the jail; the condition applies whether or not the defendant is released).
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Detective that investigated the case, Woodridge allegedly contacted the victim by phone “immediately after attending First Appearance,” and the victim told him he was not supposed to be calling her because of the no-contact order. He allegedly continued to contact her and told her to schedule visits with him. The victim reportedly scheduled visits under a different name but participated in 17 video visits. Woodridge allegedly called her directly 1,464 times; phone calls are free to inmates but are paid for by taxpayers at 2.9 cents per minute.
Woodridge has been charged with 40 counts of violating pre-trial release conditions, and Judge Adam Lee added $200,000 to his bail ($5,000 per count). Judge Lee also ordered that Woodridge’s phone and video privileges be limited to calls with his attorney.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Here we go again. Of course NO ONE, especially the commissioners, could have possible seen the results of their dumbass decisions? Right? Admit your incompetence and reverse your decision before a victim or witness get hurt or worse.
Besides the stupidity of free calls to begin with (unlimited at that), it also involves bullying of other inmates to jump line.
Just remember, the commissioners you libs keep voting for have shown this is the type behavior they condone seeing as how they voted inmates should have as many free calls as they want.
Take away your freedoms but give inmates everything they want.
That phone must be made out of pure titanium in that it still works after probably being slammed down over 1400 times… and that’s just by one guy.
Shouldn’t the county be charged with being a co-conspirator for enabling this dude’s criminal activity?
Everything they get is free
Bring back prison work farms and you’d see a marked reduction in crime. Plus teaching some of these guys a legitimate trade might reduce recidivism. Not to mention, save the tax payers a little money.
