Jain inmate re-arrested after escaping from Meridian

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A’breeyon Latrell Wilson, 21, an inmate at the Alachua County Jail, was re-arrested yesterday after allegedly escaping from Meridian Behavioral Healthcare.

On March 8, Wilson was transported from the Alachua County Jail to Meridian (1541 SW Williston Rd.) following a suicide attempt; while he was being checked in to Meridian, he allegedly jumped over the front desk and through the window leading to the reception area and ran out the front door into the area near Squirrel Ridge Park.

Deputies reportedly found Wilson walking on SW 17th Terrace about 40 minutes later, took him into custody, and transported him to the jail.

Wilson was originally arrested on January 18 when he was a patient in the Behavioral Health Unit at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. He allegedly shoved a hospital employee into a wall, took her badge, and pushed her to the ground. He was arrested near the hospital about five hours later.

On February 28, he allegedly spat on a detention deputy at the jail. Post Miranda, Wilson reportedly said he did it because he was pepper-sprayed in the past by a detention officer, and he did not want to be perceived as weak. He reportedly said the victim was not involved in the previous incident.

Wilson has been charged with battery, battery on a detention officer, and escape from involuntary commitment at a mental health facility. He is listed as homeless on the original arrest report, and he has an unspecified criminal history in Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, and Oklahoma, along with two active out-of-state warrants. Judge Sean Brewer originally set bail at $25,000, Judge Meshon Rawls added $25,000 on the second charge, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones added $40,000 on the escape charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The deputies knew he had violently escaped before and were not very careful with him this time. Not good.
