Jones: Vote for Steve Tapanes for High Springs City Commission

Letter to the editor

This letter is in support of Steve Tapanes, who is running for High Springs City Commission Seat #2 in the November 7 election.

He is on the Plan Board, which includes The Historic Preservation Board. This Board is a non-paid position; all expenses incurred, such as visits to sites, are paid for by the board member. His research of all projects is extensive. He, along with his colleagues, listen to residents in person and in sometimes lengthy meetings to assist in decisions. Given all this, the City Commission does not usually support Plan Board decisions, which reinforces comments about why they continue to maintain this board. Why would anyone want to spend so much time on issues, knowing that in most instances their recommendations  will go unheeded?

He supports action being taken to improve local infrastructure, not just talk.

Steve is in support of a multi-recreational facility. Having raised three children (now grown), he was involved in their sports activities, including coaching. He believes his involvement with construction can be beneficial to help move this forward and perhaps get monetary support from his friends in business.

Steve is a local business owner, thus he is familiar with staffing, revenue, and expenses.

His first question in considering decisions is how this will affect the current residents of High Springs.

We believe that Steve will speak up for and listen to the community at meetings. We need a new voice for our city. Vote for Steve Tapanes.

His campaign’s Facebook page can be found here. Please feel free to message him.

Sincerely,

Bob and Linda Jones

  • Silent Gloria, how can she do the job she was elected to do? She sits quietly for three years and waits to see how Ross Ambrose votes. Her most favorite almost moments are “ I was just about to say that”! Put a real commissioner in that seat, not a Ross Ambrose puppet.
    Gloria James;
    Voted for Wall Dogs Murals
    Voted for 2,200 new subdivision
Voted for a 27% city tax hike
Voted for anything Ross Ambrose does
Now, on November 7th, it’s your time to vote. Let’s make sure the message is loud and clear.
We are taking back our City.
Steve Tapanes is the only choice.

  • He sounds terrific. I don’t think people are aware of how important these positions are. Every elected official should bring talemt and experience to the table. Steve Tapanes will have my vote.

  • Steve Tapanes has proven himself to be a person for the people. As a Plan Board member, he is understandably frustrated at the lack of follow through the Plan Board receives by the commission. The Plan Board is a volunteer position and he has put in a great deal of time and energy in to understanding the topics before him. Steve Tapanes is a man of action and active participation. High Springs needs his strong voice and willingness to roll up his sleeves and get to work.
