Judge revokes bond of man on pre-trial release for fraudulent voting after shoplifting charges

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Kelvin Bolton, 57, has been re-arrested and will be held without bond on Judge David Kreider’s order after he was charged in two shoplifting incidents.

Bolton was arrested on April 6, 2022, and charged with one count of perjury and two counts of voting by an unqualified voter. He is one of ten people arrested in connection with a jailhouse voting drive conducted by Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Kim Barton’s office in 2020. Nine defendants have been convicted and sentenced to date.

Bolton was originally released after posting a $30,000 bond, but he has now been charged with petit theft from two different Walmart stores on May 22 ($202.46) and July 7 ($90.80). Since Bolton has multiple previous convictions for petit theft, both of these charges are for third or subsequent petit theft offenses and are felonies.

After formal charges were filed in the two petit theft cases and a warrant for Bolton’s arrest was issued on August 7, he was arrested on August 11. Meanwhile, a motion to revoke his bond on the voter fraud case was filed on August 2, and Judge Kreider granted the motion on August 8.

Bolton has 19 felony convictions and 19 misdemeanor convictions. He has served nine state prison sentences, with the most recent release in April 2022. Judge George Wright ordered Bolton held without bail on the voter fraud charges and set bail at $50,000 each on the felony petit theft charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • 38 convictions and 2 more will make 40, the guy is a career criminal, please find this man a permanent home run by the state with guards and bars.

    • It would appear that he is a career criminal but if you knew him or his past you would know that he is mentally ill and lost too. Not to mention he was also abused. He has been running disoriented since he was a little boy. Anyway, just thought I would add this little information. Don’t be so quick to make judgments about a person’s life when you do not know the history. I’m in no way justifying his behavior. His sisters and brothers don’t know how to help him. We have tried. If you know or have any suggestions, we are all ears.

      • Keep him away from SOE Kim Barton and T.J. Pyche.
Take them to trial on the voter fraud charges.

  • Need to lock him up forever. And Kim Barton also. She needs it more than him tho.
