Juvenile arrested for possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Wednesday March 22, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) Detectives successfully executed a search warrant at a residence within the Linton Oaks neighborhood in unincorporated Gainesville. This search warrant was authored based upon extensive investigation that was conducted by Detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Unit within the Criminal Investigations Division.
The subject of the search warrant was 16-year-old DEMETRIUS MARCELL COWART JR, who is no stranger to Law Enforcement, as he always seems to find his way to unlawful possession of a firearm.
On March 5, 2022, Cowart posted a “Live Feed” video standing outside of an apartment building in Majestic Oaks while holding a firearm. During that incident, Cowart was located and initially fled into an apartment that was occupied by a female resident and her small children. During that investigation, two stolen firearms were recovered, one of which was the firearm that Cowart had been posting on his social media “Live Feed.”
As a result of that incident, Cowart was remanded to the Juvenile Justice system and sent to a Commitment Program, where he was released on February 14th, 2023.
Soon after Cowart’s release, ASO Detectives began receiving information that Cowart had created a new social media account and was again posting photographs of himself with a firearm.
Cowart posted a photo of himself with a firearm (pictured above) just two days ago, on March 20. During the execution of the search warrant, Detectives recovered the pictured .22 caliber firearm, and Cowart was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by an Adjudicated Delinquent.
Imagine that! A hoodlum with a gun found in Linton Oaks!
Sooner or later he will meets someone with a better gun. Don’t be a menace in SW Gainesville.

Actually his mom works two jobs and have been trying to get help with him for years. She’s a wonderful woman and he goes to visit his father and grandparents often. Some kids are just hardheaded

A throw away kid that is being raised not by any parent, but by the justice system. No hope for him or society. And all these politicians across the country want to ban abortion and restrict access to birth control. SMDH
Boyz in the hood… 30+ years later… nothing ever changes except where they get pushed around geographically. Thankful that we have law enforcement watching him, waiting until he screws up.

16 and flashing a gun around? I guarantee that his teachers could have predicted this five years ago. Can’t or doesn’t read, no respect for authority, no ability to delay gratification, up all hours…it’s a culture, just as surely as yours or mine is, and it’s one that leads to prison, not to a job and stability.

SO, if he is well known to LE, why was he released a month ago, and to whose custody? More than one party should have been arrested.
