Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jacquavious Green, 17, was arrested yesterday for stealing a vehicle; a stolen shotgun and pistol were reportedly found nearby, and three other juveniles are also facing charges related to vehicle burglaries.

After receiving a report that a Ford Bronco had been stolen from the Tower Oaks Glen area, officers tracked the Bronco to the parking lot of The Lofts at Oasis (2515 SW 35th Place), and officers found four juveniles next to the Bronco. Two of the juveniles ran as officers approached.

Officers reported finding a stolen shotgun inside the Bronco, and a stolen handgun was found on the ground next to the Bronco, where one of the juveniles had tossed it as officers approached.

Green was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center. He has been charged with armed burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a minor, dealing in stolen property, and tampering with evidence. Several of the other juveniles were charged via sworn complaint.

Officers identified “numerous” vehicles that had been burglarized, and additional charges are expected for all four juveniles.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    • I thought Ex city manager Cynthia Curry had an “end gun violence crime symposium “ thing that they were spending taxpayer money on to fix this. Wasn’t there some kind of hoopla about that?

The city should put some public service announcements on the sides of RTS buses 🚍instead of those lawyer ads…

Use a gun in a crime and you’re done. 10, 20, life and put these youths’s pictures on the side of the buses wearing striped prison atire.

  • People have choices to make. These people made bad choices.
No one forced them, and these weapons weren’t “readily available and cheap.”

People need to stop making excuses.

    • We make “bad choices” in our policies on guns which are cheap and readily available, and you have to be an adult to vote. Since we already incarcerate more citizens per capita than any other developed country in the world – including China – we need to stop making excuses for our bad choices.

  • Thing is these young gangbangers watch everything going on around the hoods they live in or near. Walking the streets or parking lots with their stolen beats headphones on casing vehicles or watching when you leave your apartments. My place was broken into when they seen my truck was gone. Nowadays your neighbors won’t even say a word or alert the cops or deputy’s.
