Kanapaha Middle School student arrested for repeated threats to kill another student

Press release from Alachua County Sheriff’s Office

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, 13-year-old Kanapaha Middle School student King Banks posted a video on social media, calling a fellow student a derogatory term, cursing out their sibling, and flashing gang signs.

Then, on April 21 and April 22, Banks sent the victim multiple audio messages, threatening to not only fight but kill the victim. Banks also referenced previous homicides in Alachua County and held up gang signs.

Two days later, on April 24, the victim received another message from Banks. Banks said he would bring a gun to Kanapaha Middle School and shoot the victim, causing them to fear for their life.

Because Banks repeatedly made credible threats to the victim through the use of electronic communication, he was charged with aggravated cyberstalking and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

  • “13-year-old Kanapaha Middle School student King Banks posted a video on social media, calling a fellow student a derogatory term, cursing out their sibling, and flashing gang signs.”

“King” must have one hell of a home life.

  • Future “Peaceful Sunday” shooter. Somebody better get a hold of this kid and help him before it’s too late……Ward? Curry? unfortunately, the money you throw at gun violence will not be the help he needs.

  • What’s sad is that this child is zoned for the same school as those who live in Haile Plantation and other nearby middle class neighborhoods where values are, shall we say, quite different. 100 bucks says King is from the Cedar Ridge neighborhood.

    • god forbid those soft little haile plantation kids be exposed to the real world…

      • God forbid the hood try and teach their little demons some manners. Little POS should be thrown in a deep dark hole and forgotten about.

      • Haha it’s called working hard and being successful and not solely dependent on government hand outs. When you pay what we pay to own a home you wouldn’t want your kids around that neither. That’s not the real world, real world is get educated, stay out trouble and strive to succeed not stay in the same bubble with people who want a handout and live in the ghetto their whole life. Ghetto fabulous . There’s levels and your level is below my standard

      • It is not about the neighborhood and economic background. It is about education and family values. This child could come from unemployed parents, but if they teach them values and impose discipline, this should not happen.

  • Think the school board will discuss this at their next meeting?

  • Starting them young. Perhaps young King should realize his mom’s income likely comes from the tax dollars from the parents of the kid he was bullying.

  • People are not taught who the Lord is white black yellow green purple no matter what Hood you live in

  • And not to mention that the families don’t get together and teach their children amongst each other the way that they should have been taught like the good old days but thanks to Governor Lawton Childs we’re not allowed to discipline our children, if they wouldn’t have taken our rights away from disciplining our children and scolding them in the areas where they needed to be and when our grandparents were allowed to discipline as well in front of the parents whether it be mom dad and uncle cousin sibling whoever whatever whenever, when it was necessary so don’t blame it on the hood that they come from blame it on society wanting to speak out but turning their head at the same time it’s a shame

  • Given the district’s policies and thinking of late, I’m surprised they allowed the kid to be arrested.
Wonder how long it’ll take a Certain board member to object.

  • Homeschool or charter school. Use the available state funding. Deprive the government schools of funding. Those funds belong to you and your child, not Alachua Co public school system. Make them bring back juve schools. Make them remove politics. Keep scraping the cream off the top till they can no long manage!

  • Meanwhile, Republicans are fixated on culture wars.
News flash: Banning woke, banning DEI, banning library books, banning drag shows, banning abortion, banning trans in the military, banning exports and imports with tariffs have one thing in common.
None of these bans will solve the problem of young thugs like King Banks.

    • Have Democrats focused on anything other than Trump over the past 4 years? Sorry, 8.

      • has trump done anything other than sell you out to the rich in the last 8 years? fell for it again award

        • DD, He’s done a better job of securing the southern border than his predecessor.
          That’s something.
He’s stopped men from participating in women’s sports.
          That’s something.
For those of you who have a difficult time, he’s also signed an executive order stating the federal government will only recognize 2 genders.
          That’s really something.

          • You’re the DumbDumb. You asked if he did “anything other than sell me out to the rich.” Like I mentioned, he did.
Problem with reading comprehension or just have difficulty using proper grammar and punctuation?

By the way, he’s only been in office for 4 years and 4 months of the past 8. Maybe you have issues with math as well?

          • actually braindead, if he does a bunch of meaningless stuff while selling us out to the rich then he’s only selling us out to the rich genius

          • 😱 Still having issues with punctuation and grammar?

Let me know when you’re capable of having meaningful thought processes that haven’t been deluded with liberal nonsense.

          • You voted , that’s weak broth for the economic, legal, and moral decline already enacted and being delivered under Trump.

How many trans gender males competing at high levels in women’s sports?

How many illegal immigrants removed over the last 4 months, a number which will decline more as the inhuman and illigegal acts of ICE under Trump are curtailed by courts? And what will happen when those desperate to become Americans can clearly see the ineffectiveness of the ICE effort and start taking the risk again?

“The Reuters news agency later reported that 37,660 migrants had been deported in Trump’s first month, putting the new administration behind Biden’s monthly average of 57,000.”

Trump promised to deport 11 million but at the rate he’s going he’ll be lucky to do 1/2 a million a year, or 2 million total. The cost? No one knows, but not cheap and that’s not counting the damage to our economy since of the 11 million undocumented estimated to be here, 80% have been here for a decade and are working, 39% own a home here and we don’t have the native born workers to sustain our economy, let alone grow it.

You’re too dumb to either fish or vote.

          • 🤣 That’s funny! You talking about moral decline.

There shouldn’t be any boy, man, or someone that can’t decide what they are, let alone what they mistakingly think they are, participating in girls’ or women’s sports. If you think they should be, you’re as confused as they are.

Jizzmouth, you’re as delusional as DumbDumb.

          • You voted, I agree that transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete in organized women’s sports – so do over 60% of democratic voters and Biden in 2023 proposed allowing transgender bans on competitive level sports in middle schools and higher, and instituted the ban in 2024.

But given the infinitesimal numbers of those trying to do so and the number of women affected, your silence on the other issues I raised while you focus on it says a lot about the ease with which you are distracted by the grifter in the WH.

Apparently you don’t think the following constitute moral decline:

            1. Loudly and falsely denouncing political opponents at every opportunity while boasting about false accomplishments.
            2. Using all available leverage to try and stop political opponents from exercising their 1st amendment rights over the airwaves, in classrooms, and even in court.
            3. Violating the rights of the accused to due process, including shipping them to a foreign jail who’s leader admits very few ever leave from, then in a joint press meeting with him laughing about their “What me?” inability to do anything about those already wrongly sent there (of which as many as 75% of the 1st group have no criminal record).
            4. Firing federal employees without due process – and then haphazardly rehiring some back (whoops!) – and without review by anyone other than the guy who gave you $250 million and who himself has numerous federal contracts.
            5. Closing down programs created and funded by Congress over decades by the same guy who gave you $250 million and which has already caused the deaths of people around the world, millions of babies left without vaccinations and other life saving procedures, and food programs supplied by our farmers. (Hey, China will pick up the slack and the “soft power” moves which are much cheaper than using your military.)
            6. Starting a bit coin business to which anyone can buy into without a trace – what could go wrong ?
            7. Appointing cabinet and other high ranking administration figures who have zero qualifications for the job other than loyalty to Trump.
            8. Cutting off intelligence to Ukraine while they are being attacked by Russia causing death and dismemberment and then accusing it’s president of starting the invasion by Russia while expressing empathy with Putin’s frustration with him.
            9. Attacking and insulting our allies while actually threatening invasion of fellow NATO countries, leaving us totally alone in the world and virtually every human in it hating our guts. We used to be the good guys a very short time ago.
            10. Trying to start a global economic war without approval from Congress, which will codify the emotions and positions in my #9 above, and start with the loss of tourism dollars. Oh yeah, those international scholars who used to flock here, many of them to stay and enrich our economy and our culture? Forget them.

I can go on You voted, but I don’t think you can handle it. Who could?

          • You’re still an idiot. I never said I agreed with all of his policies…I don’t. That 40% who do support transgender athletes participating in women’s sports sure cause a ruckus don’t they?

He’s done more damage to this country’s world standing than any president in history.
Let’s not forget those most responsible for starting this division – those congressional reps and other social figures who denounced his first election. They proved to be great examples didn’t they? Would that classify as moral decline? So stop with the “holier than thou BS.” Here you are denouncing, quite loudly I might add, those you disagree with.

If the people being deported are illegal immigrants and they have committed crimes, (which by the way, entering this country illegally is), they should be deported. You or I can’t go into China, Russia or most other countries without following the legal process.

There’s too much bureaucracy at the federal level, has been for years. Some of the fat needs/needed trimming. (Same here at local level as well.) While some budgetary expenditures are necessary, there’s many that are not.
While I didn’t agree with his appointments, prior administrations have done the same, so again, enough already.

Maybe you didn’t want Trump to be elected but since Biden dropped out and Harris and her ignorance was the only alternative, what did you expect would happen?

          • As I predicted, you can’t handle it. Most of your post doesn’t make any sense and what does is really weak. How you voted for this guy more than once is your shame to live down.

Even those who are here illegally have a right to due process, which is how you don’t send people by mistake to a hellhole prison they will likely never get out of. That you don’t care – and Trump definitely doesn’t – is a moral (and legal) failure probably worse than voting more than once for him.

As to being here illegally, Haitians, Venezuelans, and Cubans have been here under a legal ruling which Trump removed so he could kick them out. Many here “illegally” have been here for a decade or more and working (about 80%) and 39% of them own homes. It is difficult to get a visa to stay and is based on being a relative, having a promised job, or a refugee from political persecution so being illegal does not mean just being lazy and looking to cheat but usually a strong desire to work, be an American, and have an earned future.

Funny that you think Harris was ignorant. Did you see the debate? Have you listened to her, but more importantly Trump. You do know I hope that a survey of presidential historians ranked his 1st term as the worst of any president to date and the 2nd is much worse.

          • I’ve handled far worse than your ignorance and the only people who aren’t capable of understanding my comment are those who are so politically biased they refuse to. She serves up word salad and he’s seems to get stuck on redundancy. Like you, he sounds like a broken record. Maybe you’ve hit your thumb too many times.

We’ve seen how good you are at predicting.
I predict you’ll continue your ignorant, prejudiced commentary at every opportunity.

          • If you were ignorant of the many points I made above – Fox viewers often are -you could just thank me for the education. If not and you still support this guy there’s more wrong with you than voting for him more than once.

          • I thought your ignorance was the discussion. Now it’s clear just how clueless you are. Not quite as much as Joe and his continued support even after it was clear he no longer possessed the mental capacity to continue as president.

If you want to educate me you’d best pack your lunch.

          • As with Obama, Biden left Trump with a solid and healthy economy (“envy of the world” according to The Economist) after being left one in shambles after a GOP president. Supposedly incompetent Joe got more done than any president since LBJ while Trump in 4 months has us headed for lawless disaster and a world in chaos.

          • So whoever the Republican president is, you guys just change the 1st letter to dismiss criticism, or do you mean BDS? I think TDS describes a condition of infatuation and complete subservience to a lying idiot no matter how many times he dumps on you.

          • You’re really not in a position to be calling other people idiots there Dee.

        • Ah, yeah DeeDee, he has. He’s slowed the flow of illegals across the border, he’s equalizing tariffs, he’s supported the second amendment. All this and he hasn’t even been in office 100 days.

          • BS Steely. Trump is lying when he says we are victimized by the rest of the world on tariffs and trade.

“There is lots of talk from the Trump administration these days about how the U.S. is getting cheated on trade. In this context, they have done some cherry-picking of the data to emphasize high foreign tariffs, while conveniently ignoring high U.S. tariffs. For example, Trump will mention a 270% Canadian tariff on dairy products, without mentioning U.S. tariffs of up to 187% on sour cream. Or White House trade adviser Peter Navarro will mention EU auto tariffs of 10% and argue that those are much higher than the 2.5% tariffs for car imports to the U.S, but he won’t mention the 25% U.S. tariff on truck imports.

One important point to note is that these are the generally applied tariffs, but some of these countries have FTAs with each other, under which special lower tariffs apply (the World Bank averages are the only ones that take into account lower FTA tariffs). For the U.S., that means NAFTA, under which almost all tariffs (dairy and peanuts, among others, excepted) are zero; the U.S. — Australia FTA; and various other FTAs.

So what’s the reality of tariff levels? The cherry-picking approach emphasizes particular products where tariffs are high, and as can be seen in the examples above there are still a few of these “tariff peaks,” including some imposed by the U.S. But with so much variation on tariffs by product, an average tariff level is more informative. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get an accurate picture of this (as discussed here). Here’s a sampling of a few countries and the EU (explanations to follow):

      • Trump is your party’s obsession, not the democrats, who righted the ship after his collapse during covid (more jobs lost since Hoover, negative GDP) to create an economy declared “the envy of the world” 6 months ago by the centrist and respect “The Economist”. We had a lower rate of inflation during Covid – it’s cause – than all but one major developed world country and added less to the national debt than Trump. He plans to do that again with his rich-guy tax cut which is scored to add another $5.8 billion.

We democrats managed to not make every country and citizen in the world who doesn’t live in Moscow or Hungary hate us, the effect of which on our economy – start with tourism where you’d have to be nuts to want to try and cross the border into the US now – and our security will be bad. We managed to not try and shut down opposing viewpoints by limiting the rights of and suing attorneys, media companies, and universities, and increased medical and scientific research, not cut it. I could go on and on, given Trump is both the stupidest and most corrupt lying president ever and if you wished to not have him be the center of attention again – a position he craves – you could have been smart enough to not vote for him again in November.

        Nah, you’re not.

    • Dribble on, or better yet, deflect on! This discipline problem has nothing to do with your opening sentence.

Did you tell this kids parent their kid has a discipline problem? Discipline and respect for others starts with the parents.

Discipline can be reinforced, and enforced, in school, but only if the teachers backed up when they refer a student for a “discipline” problem. The teacher needs to teach and the School Administrators, along with the District Administrators need to deal with this student in accordance with established policies.

Oh wait, Alachua County Public Schools and the School Board, have no discipline policy! Certain, Vu, and Rockwell, can’t kick thugs and criminals out of school or you won’t get the parent’s vote next election day! They need to keep the daycare open to all!

  • April 15th should have been the first and only threat. Question: Why didn’t the “victim” or his/her/its parent elevate this to the GPD or ASO that day????

  • Yalls think king is bad dude. He ain’t. Lot of gang sign flashing going on because we ain’t got no 150 million football stadium so Dat all the goodies can hang out mug people after games. Deal with it

    • For crying out loud Kumahla, it’s ya’ll and there is NO plural so just use ya’ll as in “ya’ll think king is a bad dude.” And, yeah, we do think he’s a bad dude.

  • What the parents are going to need to worry about now, is retaliation from “friends” of the aggressor. Probably need to find a new school.
