Kent Fuchs named interim UF president
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kent Fuchs will serve as interim president of the University of Florida effective August 1, UF’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously.
“I am thrilled that Kent has agreed to take on this important role at such a critical time to ensure a smooth and orderly transition as we prepare to initiate a national presidential search,” said Mori Hosseini, Board of Trustees chair. “We owe him a huge debt of gratitude.”
Fuchs, who served as UF president from 2015 to 2023, said he is honored to have been asked.
“My wish is only to be of service to the university. I look forward to working this year with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni as we lead the nation in our teaching, research, and land-grant and clinical activities,” Fuchs said.
In a video address to the UF community, Fuchs said he had three goals: “First, that we will work to enhance our university’s excellence and reputation in all that we do… Second, I’m committed to position the university so that our next president will be able to most effectively serve and lead. Third, as we work hard this year, my hope is that we will also experience joy. My prayer has always been that UF will be known as a place where we care about one another, where we have joy in our work. and where we lead the nation in all that we do.”
Dr. Fuchs currently teaches an electrical engineering class in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
The Board of Trustees is expected to announce it is launching a national search for President Ben Sasse’s permanent successor in the coming weeks.
Yay! We are SO happy to have him back. And this isn’t because of Sasse and DeSantis and politics.
Sasse was completely inept which wasn’t as bad as the fact that he was also completely corrupt. Wait for the news.
Who REALLY ran UF from 2015 to 2023?? Was is Fuchs or Dr Glover, check the payroll status to find out.
Why don’t you check it? Or if you have, share your findings. This type of cryptic comment that accuses but offers no proof lacks integrity.
It was, and still is, Mori Hoseinni who has far more influence on operations than he should. But Fuchs did a lot and Glover was also really great.
Sasse got rid of Glover because it gave him more freedom to grift. And grift he did!
Recycled politicians. When only the best will do 👍
The guy who allowed Richard Spencer to come here. Great job maybe we’ll get more natzis now
Yeah, well guts is not something Fuchs ever exhibited. He allowed Spencer because he said his lawyers said he had no choice. Within in a very short time period Spencer tried to speak at Ohio State and they told him to GFH. He apparently did as he never spoke there or took them to court. Gainesville and UF on the other hand shut down for the day and gunfire was exchanged by Nazis on Archer Road. A few months later AC Sheriff’s Dept sent UF a bill for svereal hundred thousand for their support for the day. At first UF paid, then thought better of it and pulled a Trump – they cancelled the check and paid pennies on the dollar.
Fuchs of course has never stood up to the state GOP’s take over our university system, stopping faculty from being expert witnesses, greenlighting the corrupt hiring of Ladapo, and letting them roll over faculty tenure. He’s a coward or with them.

Could Ben Sasse’s sudden resignation during RNC’s last day have any connection to his having voted in the US Senate to impeach Trump? Wonder what initiatives he undertook that are now being quickly disavowed and dismantled. And why UF admin and boosters keep boasting about magazine rankings as meaning, really, anything.
