Keystone Heights man arrested for downtown stabbing incident with life-threatening injuries
Staff report
Updated on November 6 with bail information.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Aaron Elijah Goodin, 21, was arrested early this morning and charged with attempted homicide after allegedly stabbing a man eight times.
Gainesville Police Department officers reported that at about 2:22 a.m. on October 26, the victim and two of his friends got into an argument with another group of men inside a downtown establishment. After they left the establishment at closing time, they walked in the same direction and continued arguing until they reached the 200 block of South Main Street.
Goodin and his friends, who were not with either group, happened to be in the 200 block of South Main Street, and Goodin reportedly began making negative comments about the victim and his group. The victim reportedly yelled back at Goodin, upset that Goodin “had no idea what was going on, but was running his mouth, anyway.”
All three groups began fighting, with multiple fist-fights breaking out. As the groups were fighting, Goodin and two of his friends began fighting with the victim, and while the victim was fighting off Goodin’s friends, Goodin allegedly approached the victim from his right side and stabbed the victim multiple times in the torso.
A Gainesville Police Department officer arrived right after the victim fell to the ground and saw Goodin walking away. He reported that the victim pointed toward Goodin and said, “He just stabbed me!” One of the victim’s friends also reportedly identified Goodin as the man who had stabbed the victim.
The officer reported that Goodin seemed like he was about to run, but he decided not to. The officer held Goodin at gunpoint until he got into a prone position and then waited for backup officers to arrive and secure him in handcuffs.
While the officer was waiting for backup officers to arrive, a bystander showed him video of Goodin tossing the knife on the ground to a woman who turned out to be Goodin’s sister. Officers later contacted Goodin’s sister and recovered the knife.
One of the victim’s friends said he never lost sight of Goodin from the time of the stabbing until the officers handcuffed him, and he said he had seen Goodin pulling the knife out of the victim’s chest.
Witness accounts indicated that the victim was not armed and did not present a threat to Goodin at the time of the stabbing.
Another witness said he did not participate in the fight, and he said he saw the victim fighting with two of Goodin’s friends when Goodin came up from the victim’s right side and stabbed the victim. This witness said the victim was not even looking toward Goodin when Goodin stabbed him.
The officer reported that Goodin’s sister was initially uncooperative, but she eventually produced the knife and said she had been worried about what would happen to her brother. She also reportedly said she never saw the victim with any weapons before Goodin stabbed him.
The officer reported that medical personnel said the victim was stabbed eight times, suffered a punctured lung, and lost a great deal of blood. At the time of the report, the victim was in stable condition.
Goodin has been charged with attempted homicide. He has two adult felony convictions (non-violent) and seven misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) in Clay County, and he is currently on probation.
At his First Appearance hearing, Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial. On November 3, Judge Denise Ferrero granted the motion and ordered him held without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

No bail, keep him in jail. It is obvious he stabbed someone 8 times and is a danger to other people. Prayers for the victim.
You are so right! This guy is only 21 and already has two adult felony convictions and seven misdemeanor convictions. He has no regards for human life or being a law abiding citizen.
Not much good occurs after midnight…..especially in downtown Gville.
This is the future of America, “a bystander showed him video of Goodin.”
I wonder if this individual called 911, offered assistance, or just decided their social media page was more important?
This nation needs more Pennys and a lot less of these types.
According to the article, an officer was on the scene “right after” the victim fell to the ground. The bystander assisted by recording evidence of both the suspect in possession of the weapon and the attempted escape, without putting anyone else in danger. You admit that you have no idea whether the bystander rendered any further aid, but you rush headlong into the assumption that the recording was all for social media fame. This nation needs more people like the bystander, and fewer malcontents making unfounded assumptions from their armchairs.
From what I’ve seen of late, there’s more people, (especially of these later generations), worried about social media and their appearances on such than they are about lending a helping hand.
You should get out more and you’re likely to see it yourself.
I just thank the lord my little brother is alive
Praying for your brother, I’ve known Brandon and his family since he was a teen, I’m not surprised this happened, but I am so very, very sorry it happened to your brother. Please know that all of Keystone Heights is praying for his swift recovery.
How can you get on here and pray for an individual that stabbed someone eight times, punctured his lung and could have taken this man’s life????? How about start praying for the victim! If the victims name is Brandon then I apologize but Brandon (the defendant) deserves everything the judge slaps him with! He made himself relevant in a situation that had nothing to do with him!!!! I’m hope the VICTIM is ok and making a speedy recovery!!!!
She’s praying for the victim. She knows Brandon and Brandon’s family and is not surprised he’d do this.
Seems that new “Entertainment District “ is working as expected. As long as you just read about this stuff it’s entertaining. Then again if you’re mom and dad it’s downright frightening.
Downtown or any bars outside after hours aren’t safe.
It’s downtown Keystone Heights (which I didn’t even know or care to know existed) not downtown Gainesville.
Super classy though for the KH community. Keep at it.
Gainesville police work in Gainesville, not Keystone Heights.
No main St Gainesville. Goodin is from keystone heights
What a coward
FYI the FEST23 was going this weekend downtown I wonder if he was attending that. For those that know the FEST is a punk music festival that’s been going on for 23 years. I’ve attended it a few times only to see specific bands. Because the whole FEST is a scam the tickets are over priced double what you would pay to see a real music festival in a major city like Atlanta with real head line bands that people have heard of. Also the festivals are held at appropriate locals like Piedmont Park or Centennial Olympic Park. The FEST is at every run down college bar that’s down town and every empty lot that you can back a flat bed trailer into and call it a stage or where every the hobo’s sleep at normally by the old court house. I think they hippies in charge of the GSSR wanted to make Depot Park the GSSR version of Centennial Park but it’s not big enough to have anything there. I question if the FEST actually makes any money or if the commies at City/County are just funding it. Kind like I don’t think the theatre and ballet make any money but it’s the same commies who want it to make them feel cultured like the GSSR is NYC or something. You would think the whole city of Gainesville is the Hipp by all the money they spent on that elevator to fix it. But yet there’s another historic landmark just a couple blocks over that looks like riot hit it or something the Florida Theatre. The state this bldg. is in is disgraceful compared to other FL Theatres in Jax and Deland. I think the dirty commie hippies and in cohorts with developers and want to tear down that whole block and but another 5 over 1 bldg. there. but I digress. The guy was probably attending the FEST. 1 last thing how can you have a PUNK festival and never have the king of PUNK there Iggy Pop? I’ve seen Iggy at other PUNK festivals but that was in guess where not the GSSR but a real city Atlanta with real venues.
I guess this guy’s never going be at the FEST again in his life.
