Kim Metzger named UF Health SAVP and Chief Advancement Officer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida has appointed Kim M. Metzger senior associate vice president and chief advancement officer for University of Florida Health.

In this role, Metzger will lead all advancement-related activities for the university’s academic health center across its teaching, research, and patient care missions, with responsibilities for fundraising, alumni affairs, and external relations for the clinical enterprise system-wide, as well as for UF Health’s six health colleges and its research centers and institutes.  Kim will also serve on UF Health’s Executive Leadership Cabinet.

In addition, she will assume strategic oversight of the UF Health portion of the university’s comprehensive fundraising campaign and will work collaboratively with leaders across UF Health to build a unified, high-impact culture of philanthropy.

Metzger has consistently sought to align donors’ passions with meaningful, mission-driven causes, said Maria Martin, vice president of UF Advancement and executive vice president of the UF Foundation.

“Kim brings deep experience in grateful patient fundraising, principal gifts, and campaign planning that aligns perfectly with UF Health’s aspirations and its focus on driving innovation and excellence in patient outcomes,” Martin said. “She has already made significant contributions since joining UF, and we are thrilled to have her lead this next chapter of strategic growth.”

Metzger joined UF in 2023 as associate vice president for the UF College of Medicine and the broader health system, and most recently as the academic health center’s interim chief advancement officer. She will continue to work closely with deans, department chairs, hospital administrators and university leadership to drive transformational fundraising and foster meaningful partnerships with donors.

In addition, she will manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects, develop major gift strategies, and lead a high-performing advancement team focused on long-term, transformational success for UF Health.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Metzger has more than three decades of fundraising and communications experience, including 14 years with Johns Hopkins Medicine, where as senior director of development and external relations she raised more than $300 million to support research, education, and patient care, including a $75 million transformational gift to establish a neurosurgery pain research institute.

She has been active in several professional organizations, including the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was a member of the Hopkins-Stanford Leadership In Action program from 2014 to 2015 — an advancement think tank that collaboratively discussed and presented solutions aligning various trends and challenges within academic fundraising. Outside of work, she has chaired the board of directors for U.S. Figure Skating’s D.C. EDGE Synchronized Skating Teams in Washington, D.C.
