Labor Day message from Mayor Ward

Press release from City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Labor Day marks an important moment in United States history. Rising from the labor movement of the late 19th century, the holiday was established to recognize the vital contributions of workers in shaping the strength, prosperity, and wellbeing of our nation.

In Gainesville, our community thrives because of the dedication of neighbors across every sector. Public servants, healthcare professionals, construction workers, artists, teachers, entrepreneurs and countless others give our city its vibrant and unique character. That is the foundation of Gainesville’s success.

If you work here, you make our community a better place for all. Today we honor you, and we are deeply grateful.

Enjoy this well-deserved holiday.

What about the homeless, criminals, and panhandlers? Aren’t they also part of your utopia?

    • As the Back-Ward Mayor of Gainesville my real message is this. GET TO WORK!!!! I have lost my access to the GRU piggy bank, so I am going to be putting my puggy fingers into your pockets, because if you commoners think I am cutting any government spending you simply have not been paying attention. With that being said, since you commoners are not paying attention, you will be paying more in property taxes, fees, and sur-charges (plus my donut buffets).

  • Omg cute illustration of human beings of Gainesville.

    Still figuring that zero landfill.
All that wasted money in a big dirt hill…

Ok if if if if if if it works you could have had all this 💰 🤑 💸 💲 🎭💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💴💴🪙that’s 1 bitcoin

  • I find it amusing that someone who offers recognition for those who work actually doesn’t do much at all.

And yes, many of the people who work here do try to make the community a better place – in spite of the obstacles City Hall throws at us.

  • Labor unions would be more attractive if the Govt would stop copying their benefits and spreading them for everybody else, including criminals and illegals.
