Live Oak man arrested for sexually assaulting 9-year-old when he was a teen

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – George Lee Quinn V, 21, of Live Oak, was arrested on July 23 by Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office and transported to Alachua County today to face a charge of sexual battery, offender less than 18 years old and victim less than 12.
Quinn is accused of sexually battering a girl who was nine or ten years old at the time at a residence in Gainesville. He was 13 or 14 years old at the time.
The charges arise from a sworn complaint filed in 2020 for incidents that allegedly happened in 2014-15. A warrant for Quinn’s arrest was issued in May of 2022, and he was arrested in Live Oak last weekend. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
How can a sworn complaint be issued in 2020 not be acted upon until 2022??? I’m surely no expert on the process for sworn complaint to warrant for arrest, but something just is not right here.
I’d probably argue that the case is really weak – regardless of what they say now – or they would have filed it a lot sooner. The more time elapses, the harder it is to prove what happened (guilt or innocence). I would go for a jury trial and not a plea agreement.
