“The Life Story of Christopher Scott: Gun Violence is Preventable” is a documentary produced by youth about the impacts of gun violence following the death of 13-year old Christopher Scott, who was killed in the local American Legion Hall shooting in 2021.

The project was produced by Filming with a Purpose, an after-school program of Dream on Purpose, Inc., where students explored the issue of gun violence with a mental health counselor.

Both productions are funded, in part, by One Nation One Project GNV, the City of Gainesville’s local take on a national initiative to improve youth health and wellbeing through the arts.

  • I hope it mentions STEALING guns and illegally reselling them to thugs, and shoplifting in general ruining neighborhoods. Anyone wanna place bets?

  • I totally disagree with the label “gun violence”, IT IS PEOPLE VIOLENCE, plain and simple, when gun’s are referred to in that context, WE are playing into the hands of the united nations, and its Global control endeavors, they can go too Hell, which most of them just may do, We DON’T HAVE TO GO WITH THEM???

  • We can hope this video will get more MPG than what both commissions have failed to get.
The excuses are a coming! Now if only the core cause and remedy of youth & gang violence were addressed.

  • Is anyone in this community unaware of the deadly violence perpetrated by criminals on an almost daily basis using various weapons? I think we’re all well aware of the violence around here. I fail to understand how poetry and documentaries are going to stop the killings. What is actually being DONE about it???

  • I recall a program referred to as “scared straight” where they would take juvenile offenders to the ‘Big House’ (prison) and the inmates would graphically explain to them what will happen to them when they are incarcerated. If that doesn’t work then keep them in jail for multiple repeat crimes.
