Machine recount confirms Chad Scott as Sheriff-elect
November 13, 2024
Press release from Alachua County Supervisor of Elections
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Canvassing Board has formally completed the machine recount for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Race.
The second set of unofficial results, including the recount, are available here and are summarized below:
- Emery Gainey (REP) – 62,372 votes
- Chad Scott (DEM) – 62,764 votes
- Pamela Marshall-Koons (NPA) – 8,514 votes
Results are not official until the Alachua County Canvassing Board completes the certification process. The Alachua County Canvassing Board will meet to certify and release the official results on Friday, November 15.
Should be a manual recount. The votes seem a little off from P60.
Needs to be a manual recount especially in P60.
Congratulations Chad Scott
Looking forward to great years to come.
I don’t think that’s what he brings…
Well it looks like Clovis Jr. will be the next Sheriff. Hoping FDLE will release their investigation before he takes office. Maybe he will be removed from office like Clovis Sr or claim to be sick and step down.
What FDLE needs to investigate is an internal officer who has used her authority and a relationship with a private attorney to settle political scores. ASCO deserves better.
FDLE doesn’t need to investigate, someone higher them needs to investigate FDLE suppression of an investigation. FDLE is involved! We need Desantis!!!
Clovis Jr. is a compliment.
Congratulations Sheriff Scott. You ran a clean campaign, now clean house. You have a ton of folks even some in leadership positions that need to look for work elsewhere. Their allegiance is not to serving the community but their own self-interest. I can’t believe the stuff folks in leadership positions would post on social media the crap that I’ve seen. I’m sure these same folks will cry foul in January when you are sworn in and try to bring some stupid allegation with them. Just keep your head held high and do what you’ve always done. SERVE
Somehow I don’t think he’ll have to worry about “cleaning house.”
Most indications are he’ll be facing a mass exodus of current employees.
I just hope he’s more comfortable and proud to wear the uniform of his profession than a suit and tie to make him appear more of a politician.
I’ve worked under three and now will be four sheriffs. It’s simple, come to work and do your job. I’ve had zero problem under Darnell, Watson, and Gainey. I think the officers who try and throw weight around and get involved in petty drama are the ones that have the issues. Back to work. Let’s do what we were called to do.
Scott certainly seemed to have more enthusiastic support at the polling places. Humans smiling and waving signs vs Gainey’s face on signs posted here and there around town.
L.C Jr. will continue to steal from the Sheriff’s Office like he did under Darnell. Should have had his LEO Standards revoked years ago for theft.
And multiple counts of untruthfulness related to the double payments on his payroll.
Bummer
Just when the change was for the better. Voters put the sheriff position right back in the gutter. Shame in the democrats for voting for the D.
Did he win because of the D next to his name ?
Sheriff Gainey is a FAR FAR better sheriff than Clovis Jr ever will be.
Why would people vote for that guy, I truly don’t know.
Don’t worry, there will be an FDLE investigation of HIM within a year and he’ll either resign or get booted out.
Now, now people. We have to say something nice about our new Sheriff. I’ll start:
Scot is as honest a cop as Watson.
Scot is as competent an administrator as Watson.
Your turn.
Could Pamela Marshall-Koons have ran specifically to take votes away from Emery Gainey? She had no law enforcement experience and stranger things have happened in Gainesville.
Koons ran to the far left and was far more likely to take votes from Scott. I supported Sheriff Gainey myself, but I congratulate Sheriff elect Scott.
That would be have run, not have ran.
I ran because my son is a Navy Veteran with PTSD and military trauma. There are so many men and women who raise their hands to protect our freedom but come home and their freedom and safety are not protected. If law enforcement experience was the solution, our community would be crime free. There are public policy issues that must be addressed. Crimes that happen behind the closed doors of our homes. There are so many veterans in the Alachua County jail, we have to have a court just for veterans. This is an example of the failed public policies that is costing, many who survive their service to our country yet they die by suicide or their minds never recover from what they endured during their service to America. I did not become a candidate to take, I became a candidate to give. Mental illness is not a crime and we must stop putting our citizens in cages because they have mental illness. Please know I will continue my work so you and others will see that being an elect official is not the only way to impact change. Please join our efforts. I invite you to read about Dorothea Dix. Rather than criticize, I invite you to get involved. Blessings and Peace to you.
Thank you for your public service by running for an office.
Yes, mental health is a big issue. So is homelessness.
But the county has an even bigger issue: 16 year old gangsters shooting each other with stolen guns. It has been declared a local emergency.
What is your concrete solution to solving this issue?
We do indeed have a big problem with lack of mental health services for our veterans.
But you were running to be sheriff, not to be the head of the local VA, public defender or social agency.
We have a huge problem with youth gang crime, career criminals and illegal drugs. The sheriff has a jail facility to run day to day. And there was a huge number of staff who left under Watson that Gainey has been trying to address. I didn’t hear you address any of these in a material way during the campaign.
A court just for veterans? That may have contributed to your losing campaign.
Some of us have had enough of courts for “different people;” even more have suffered because of it.
All Gainesville Police Officers ( City Police) and Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies (County Police) shld reside (live) in Gainesville, Alachua County. This would require these employees ( Public Servants) to actually care to serve and Protect the City of Gainesville Alachua County Citizens. Stop Hiring individuals who live in other Cities and commute to Gainesville Florida Alachua County for Employment.
John, where James had had “had” had had “had had”. “Had, had” had had the Teacher’s approval!!
Scott was fired from the Sheriff office when Darnell was Sheriff for misconduct( falsifying time sheet) and can’t be sheriff of an agency he was fired from..
Florida Statute states that Scott can’t become the Sheriff of the same agency , as state law generally prohibits individuals fired for misconduct from holding a leadership position within the same agency. Even if elected through a public vote…
I am hoping Gov DeSantis will remove him before he is sworn in..
Yet the same agency rehired him after Clovis took over.
What statute is that? Post here for everyone to see
FC, it might be interpreted in the ‘Standards for Certification’ portion of the statute. Although, I don’t think he was convicted for perjury or false statement, just fired for doing so. There’s an argument to be made about not being able to pass a background check if there’s a concern about him lying on his timesheets.

Odd that you can not find any record of sworn complaint. There were 8 charges filed against him by ASO but yet the State Attorney did a no information filed and dropped charges. Yet none of this was determined a violation to have his standards yanked by the Florida Criminal Justice (FDLE) he has had other legal issues that should gave been brought up too regarding his ability to handle his finances/responsibilities
yet he wants you to believe he can run a sheriff’s department. He is just as bad as Clovis.
Pamela was the spoiler, how appropriate. Don’t expect crime rates to improve with the same ole boys at ASO and courthouses, folks.
Heard he is using/bringing those who were part of the problem under Clovis back as senior leaders, that is going to cause a number of current staff to leave. Chad may be a good guy, but has issues regarding decision making and who he will rely on to provide guidance. Such a shame, this agency, much like the county, is in a dire state of looming political disaster with so may misaligned priorities.
Yawn…the voters have spoken.
Let the exodus begin!
Don’t let the door hit ya where the….
TOO MANY DEMONCRATS IN THE COUNTY WITH ANY COMMON SENSE, REMEMBER HE WAS PART OF THE WATSON FIVE AND THE TAIL OF CORRUPTION. SEEMS LIKE DEI SHOULD GIVE US MORE OF A REPRESENTATIVE POLITICAL VIEWS AND NOT JUST DEMONCRATS MARKIST TRAITORS IN OFFICE. I JUST WANT TO SAY, WHY WOULD THE THIRD PARTY RUN FOR SHERIFF WITHOUT ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING? ANOTHER STEAL THE VOTE. RECOUNT BY HAND AND VERIRY CITIZENSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently there is some question as to the validity of the final count?
Too close to call, hand recount!
I am a democrat but knew better than to vote for Chad Scott. He is corrupt and played a part in the demoralization at ACSO under Watson’s “leadership.”
He was fired from ACSO by Sheriff Darnell, for good cause, and was being investigated along with other Clovis minions before Clovis resigned.
Nothing good will come from electing Scott to office. But. Oh well.
When y’all are done complaining, can you get those Gainey signs down. They are unsightly.
Take all of the signs down. Not just Gainey. Also don’t kick a horse when he’s down. Not nice and not kind. Tis’ Da Season
So did I hear correctly that a white male officer is suing the Sheriff’s Office because of discrimination? This can’t be real. I fell over laughing. An agency that is top white heavy and has been for decades. Come on man. This really is 2024. So Clovis really is a racist. Didn’t he promote a white female to Captain? Or did I hear wrong on this too. Can’t make it up.
You may want to read the suit that was filed by that white officer. If half is true it is shocking. And the county is gonna half to pay big time.
I read that lawsuit and all 17 pages of the original complaint. I think what is completely true is that the white officer (Kevin Davis) took issue with the promotion of black officers but left out of the lawsuit the promotions of white officers. I hope everyone reads that lawsuit. I also hope the Chronicle allows this post to be posted. Kevin Davis has had no issue posting to his own social media account including his subpoena so his name in this post shouldn’t be too alarming.
This lawsuit bashes many good men and women at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and I hope those officers that earned their promotions are able to do their jobs without the fear of public persecution by a few officers who didn’t get their way. Grow up.
