Man arrested after allegedly choking girlfriend, then kicking in door of nearby residence to hide

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kevin Dalante Waters, 26, was arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly choking his girlfriend, then kicking in the door of a nearby residence to hide.

Waters reportedly got into a fight with his girlfriend at about noon yesterday, and she ran to a nearby home to borrow a phone to call 911. Waters allegedly slapped the neighbor’s phone out of her hand, breaking the phone, then forced the victim to walk back to her residence, where he choked her.

When Gainesville Police Department officers arrived, he reportedly jumped out of the window and ran to an unoccupied residence, kicked in the back door, and hid in a locked bedroom to avoid capture. After he was escorted out of that residence, he allegedly spit on an officer and spit toward another officer.

Waters also had two open warrants: one is for stealing a necklace valued at $8,199 from a pawn shop, and the other is for robbing a person over the age of 65. He has been charged with damage to property over $200, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, resisting arrest without violence, and battery on an officer. He is being held on $220,000 bond on the three cases and without bond for violating previous conditions of release.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
