Man arrested after allegedly propositioning woman in SW Gainesville neighborhood

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Khaing Win Naing, 42, was arrested yesterday for loitering/prowling after allegedly propositioning a woman on a trail near a Gainesville neighborhood.

At about 5:20 p.m. on July 30, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to Chestnut Village (8000 block of SW 60th Road), where the victim said she was walking into the trail as Naing walked out of the trail. She said Naing greeted her, and she did not respond.

The victim said Naing started following her, and she walked faster, but he caught up to her; he told her he had money and began making gestures to indicate that he wanted to have sex. The victim said she pulled out a knife, and he walked away.

Naing was located in the area, and the victim positively identified him as the man who had propositioned her.

Post Miranda, Naing reportedly admitted to offering the victim money for sex.

Naing has been charged with loitering/prowling. He told Court Services that he was born in Thailand and has been in the area for about seven months, working at a sushi restaurant. He has no criminal convictions; Judge Tatum Davis set bail at $2,500.
