Man arrested for armed robbery sentenced to 3 years in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eric Rashawn Washington, 40, has been sentenced to three years in prison after entering a plea of nolo contendere to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; he was originally arrested for allegedly stealing a woman’s purse and hitting her in the face with a gun.
A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the Circle K at 1515 N. Main Street at about 2 a.m. on September 18, 2023; the victim said she offered to buy Washington a fountain drink, but when he added more items to the purchase, she walked out of the store because she did not want to buy all the items. She said she sat down on the curb outside the store, and Washington forcefully took her purse and started looking through it. She said she pushed him to get her purse back, then he pulled out a handgun; she backed up but decided to try to get her purse back, and he hit her in the face with the gun. She said Washington went back into the store with her purse, so she followed him inside, where he grabbed her and patted her down before the two were separated.
In October 2023, a formal charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was filed, and the other original charges of armed robbery and battery were dropped.
On June 16, Washington entered a plea of nolo contendere to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a charge with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, and Judge William Davis sentenced him to three years in prison with credit for 214 days served.
Another slap on the wrist in Alachua County. You might notice the Feds don’t put up with this garbage.
Feds should’ve gotten this 💩. Next time he’ll kill someone.
He should of gotten 20 years for being a bïtch and putting his hands on a woman. I guess his daddy didn’t teach him any better tho’.

Judges jobs are one of the hardest. I’ve seen both sides of the law. I’ve been convicted of a crime I didn’t do with a public defender you might as well sink to the bottom of a lake . I have seen were a person is made to look guilty and wasn’t . I’m not saying either way on this case I don’t know him or any of his cases . I will some times they are way too hard on sentencing . Someone can be a scorned lover or just a pathological liar all they have to do to this type a person is not give them attention and they can go tell a cop this horrific story about you cops run with it your guilty. Cops need to use common sense read between the lines make a judgement call not just go for the points to get raises, promotions, newer vehicles. You can’t even say Hi to a cop they snub you Lord help you if you pass a cop throw your hand in a southern friendly hi they slam on brakes turn around and follow you. They don’t get out in their communities and get to know the people outside their uniform . My point is don’t kill the judge for making as decision he felt right about there’s always more than you see in black and white
